The 2014 Japanese Grand Prix was a Formula One motor race held on 5 October 2014 at the Suzuka Circuit. The race was won by Lewis Hamilton (pictured), driving for Mercedes, ahead of his teammate Nico Rosberg, who had started from pole position. Hamilton's victory brought him closer to his eventual second Drivers' World Championship, extending his points lead over Rosberg to ten. Bianchi's accident led to renewed improvements to safety in the sport. Bianchi was the first driver to die from an accident in Formula One since Ayrton Senna at the 1994 San Marino Grand Prix.
