Neil Armstrong (1930–2012) was an astronaut and aeronautical engineer who was the first person to walk on the Moon. He was a United States Naval Aviator who served in the Korean War and later worked as a test pilot. Armstrong joined the NASA Astronaut Corps in the second group, selected in 1962, and made his first spaceflight as command pilot of Gemini 8 in March 1966, becoming NASA's first civilian astronaut to fly in space. During this mission with pilot David Scott, he completed the first docking of two spacecraft. In July 1969, Armstrong and Apollo 11 Lunar Module pilot Buzz Aldrin performed the first crewed Moon landing while Michael Collins remained in lunar orbit in the Command Module Columbia. Stepping onto the lunar surface, Armstrong said: "That's one small step for [a] man, one giant leap for mankind." Reasons for nomination: 50th anniversary of landing humans on the Moon. Note that most Americans remember him walking on the Moon on the 20th, but it was the 21st UTC time, which is what we use in the article.

Support - for those unaware, those at Wikipedia:WikiProject Space 2019 have managed to produce several FAs on this topic, including Apollo 11. Apologies if I am stepping on any toes here, but I was wondering if the usual "do not schedule similar topics too close together" clause could be waived here, and if Apollo 11 could be nominated on a different day within the mission dates of 16-24 July (possibly even on 20 July)? It is unlikely to make much difference to the page views, as all the articles will get viewed a lot, but it wouldn't look too out of place to do this, IMO. Not sure about Hawkeye's thoughts, but I am indifferent as to when the others are run. We could run them during that week, if that is what other users want. Or we can run them at different times, if users want that. Perhaps a wider discussion on WT:TFA might be appropriate, although I thought we had discussed it once before. My hope was that the Main Page would look like this Wikipedia:WikiProject Space 2019/Main Page/July 21. Then Collins and Aldrin would have their own days at TFA on their birthdays, October 31, 2019, and January 20, 2020, respectively. --- Coffeeandcrumbs 01:28, 8 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
