Each season, one American League (AL) team wins the pennant, signifying that they are the league's champion and have the right to play in the World Series against the champion of the National League. The pennant was presented to the team with the best win–loss record each year through the 1968 season, after which the American League Championship Series (ALCS) was introduced to decide the pennant winner. In 1969, the league split into two divisions, and the teams with the best records in each division played one another in the five-game ALCS to determine the pennant winner, who received (and continues to receive) the William Harridge Trophy. The New York Yankees (1926 team pictured) have won 40 AL pennants. This total is more than twice that of the next-closest team, the Oakland Athletics, who have won 15. They are followed by the Boston Red Sox and the Detroit Tigers, with 14 and 11 pennants won respectively. (Full list...)

Twelve of the 904 Nobel Prize recipients are Indians (five Indian citizens and seven of Indian origin or residency). Rabindranath Tagore (pictured) was the first Indian citizen to be awarded and Mother Teresa is the only woman among the list of recipients. The Nobel Prize is a set of annual international awards bestowed on "those who conferred the greatest benefit on humankind" in the fields of Physics, Chemistry, Physiology or Medicine, Literature, Peace and Economic Sciences, instituted by Alfred Nobel's last will, which specified that a part of his fortune be used to create the prizes. Each laureate (recipient) receives a gold medal, a diploma and a sum of money, which is decided annually by the Nobel Foundation. On 1 December 1999, the Norwegian Nobel Committee confirmed that Mahatma Gandhi was nominated unsuccessfully for the Peace Prize five times (from 1937 to 1939, in 1947 and a few days before he was assassinated in January 1948). In 2006, Geir Lundestad, the Secretary of Norwegian Nobel Committee, cited it as "the greatest omission in our 106-year history". (Full list...)

The 2010 Indian Hindi-language drama film My Name Is Khan won 25 awards from 84 nominations. It was directed by Karan Johar. The film features Shah Rukh Khan (pictured) and Kajol in the lead roles, with Jimmy Sheirgill, Zarina Wahab, Sonya Jehan, Vinay Pathak and Parvin Dabas playing supporting roles. My Name Is Khan led the 56th Filmfare Awards with ten nominations, including Best Film (Hiroo Yash Johar, Gauri Khan) and Best Music Director (Shankar–Ehsaan–Loy). It went on to win four, including for Best Director (Karan Johar), Best Actor (Khan) and Best Actress (Kajol). The film won five awards out of eight nominations at the 12th IIFA Awards, including for Best Director (Karan Johar), Best Actor (Khan) and Best Lyricist (Niranjan Iyengar for "Sajda"). It garnered fourteen nominations at the sixth edition of the Producers Guild Film Awards, with Karan Johar winning for Best Director. (Full list...)

The 2016 Atlantic hurricane season was the costliest, as well as the first above-average, Atlantic hurricane season in four years. It featured the highest number of deaths since the 2008 season and also yielded the highest number of named storm landfalls on the United States since that year. The season officially began on June 1 and concluded on November 30. The season's first cyclone, Alex, developed on January 12, while the final storm of the season, Otto, ultimately dissipated on November 26. A total of 16 tropical depressions were recorded, of which 15 further intensified into tropical storms. Of those 15, a total of seven strengthened into hurricanes, while four attained their peaks as major hurricanes. In late September and early October, Hurricane Matthew (pictured) wrought destruction throughout the Caribbean Sea and the Southeastern United States, resulting in $15.09 billion (2016 USD) in damage and 603 deaths; it remains the ninth-costliest hurricane on record in the Atlantic, as well as the tenth-costliest in the United States. American singer Ariana Grande has released five studio albums, one compilation album, one remix album, four extended plays (EPs), forty-three singles (including twelve as a featured artist), seven promotional singles and thirty-eight music videos. After signing with Republic Records, she released her debut single "Put Your Hearts Up" in December 2011. In April 2013, Grande made her chart debut with "The Way", which peaked at number nine on the United States Billboard Hot 100 chart. Her debut studio album Yours Truly reached the top ten in many countries while debuting at number one on the US Billboard 200. Grande's fifth album, Thank U, Next, was released in February 2019. The lead single of the same name debuted at number one simultaneously in the United States and in the United Kingdom. The subsequent two singles, "7 Rings" and "Break Up with Your Girlfriend, I'm Bored", debuted at number one and number two, respectively, in the United States and topped the charts in the United Kingdom. The English ceremonial county of Somerset contains a wide range of museums: institutions (including nonprofit organisations, government entities, and private businesses) that collect and care for objects of cultural, artistic, scientific, or historical interest and make their collections or related exhibits available for public viewing. Many of the museums are in listed buildings. In the United Kingdom, this signifies a building which has been placed on the Statutory List of Buildings of Special Architectural or Historic Interest. In England and Wales, the authority for listing is granted by the Planning (Listed Buildings and Conservation Areas) Act 1990, and is administered by English Heritage. Many of the museums have been accredited by the Museums, Libraries and Archives Council, which sets national standards for museums in the UK. Several are art galleries providing space for the exhibition of art (Holburne Museum of Art pictured), or are philatelic, regimental, science, aviation, transport, railway, toy, religious or sports museums, but the majority are local museums. There have been 12 tied Twenty20 Internationals. A Twenty20 International (T20I) is an international cricket match between two representative teams, each having T20I status, as determined by the International Cricket Council (ICC), and is played under the rules of Twenty20 cricket. For a match to finish as a tie, both teams must have scored the same number of runs. The number of wickets lost is not considered. Although such matches are recorded as ties, a tiebreak is played; prior to December 2008, this was a bowl-out, and since then it has been a Super Over. The first tied T20I occurred in 2006, between New Zealand (team pictured) and the West Indies. Hosted at Eden Park in Auckland, it was the fifth T20I. The next tie, involving India and Pakistan, happened during the group stages of the 2007 ICC World Twenty20. India won the resulting bowl-out, and were awarded two points, the equivalent of a win. The U.S. state of Mississippi is divided into 82 counties and contains 299 incorporated municipalities, consisting of cities, towns and villages. Mississippi's municipalities cover only 4.3% of the state's land mass, but are home to 50.5% of its population. Municipalities in Mississippi are classified according to population size. At time of incorporation, municipalities with populations of more than 2000 are classified as cities, municipalities containing between 301 and 2000 persons are considered towns, and municipalities between 100 and 300 persons are called villages. Places may be incorporated to become a city, town or village through a petition signed by two-thirds of the qualified voters who reside in the proposed municipality. As of the 2010 United States Census[update], the largest municipality by population in Mississippi is Jackson (pictured), with 173,514 residents, and the smallest is Satartia, with 55 residents. Twenty-three participants have competed on Celebrity Big Brother, the American adaptation of Celebrity Big Brother and second spin-off of the United States version of Big Brother. It premiered on CBS on February 7, 2018. The series is hosted by Julie Chen Moonves. The Celebrity HouseGuests for the first season were revealed during a live pre-show of the 2018 Grammy Awards on January 28, 2018. The first season began filming on January 31, 2018 and concluded twenty-six days later on February 25, 2018, when Marissa Jaret Winokur and Ross Mathews were announced as the winner and runner-up of the season, respectively. On May 5, 2018, CBS renewed the series for a second season, which premiered on January 21, 2019. The second season lasted for twenty-nine days and ended on February 13, 2019, when Tamar Braxton (pictured) won in a unanimous vote over Ricky Williams. (Full list...)
