Wikipedia:Village pump (proposals)/Proposal to require autoconfirmed status in order to create articles/Trial set up

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This is an extension to the discussion on the implementation of the trial of the Editors to require autoconfirmed status in order to create articles that was agree by consensus.

This is purely a discussion page for developers.

Trial set up[edit]

This discussion is is two sections:

  • Technical software requirements
  • Site interface messages.

In order to have everything ready for the start of the trial, Wiki software developers should be invited to make their suggestions for the technical implementation. Wikipedia site interface wording can be edited by any admin, but we need to identify what and where these are.

Discussion: Technical software requirements: discussion[edit]

(This requires input from MediWiki developers who will need to change user groups/permissions)

Needed:

  • Only users of autoconfirmed status (4 days and 10 edits) to be able to create an article in live article mainspace.
  • Users will be given the option to be redirected to Articles for Creation, or to a user sub page.
  • Articles in any other namespace will be technically prevented from moving into main space until the user has reached autoconfimed status.
  • A non-autconfirmed editor clicks on a redlink or opens a non-existent page on their browser while logged in.
  • They would see the same dynamic link (e.g. http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Talk:Zaur_Ardzinba&action=edit&redlink=1) they do now.
  • Non-autoconfirmed users would see the same page an IP editor sees.
