International Women's Day, India

8th March is International Women's Day and to celebrate, women in India are organizing edit-a-thons and meetups to create and expand articles of importance to women in Wikipedia in English and various Indian languages. The goal of the month-long event is to encourage more women to contribute to Wikipedia and increase representation of articles related to women in Wikipedia. The event aims at creating new articles, expanding the existing stubs and translating English articles to various Indic languages.

All day Edit-a-thon on March 7, 2015

  • An all day event (10:00AM to 5:00PM) held at Wikimedia Office, Bangalore was attended in person by 4 participants and 38 other participants joined online to contribute to 224 edits which resulted in the creation/expansion of 10 women specific articles.
  • The most edited article was India's Daughter with little over 150 edits.
  • The event was covered by media - Official Press Release and Event Report
