I would like to know how a good article can be written, recently I have submitted an article for review but that's not approved, please give me some tips for writing a good article, it's about an Organization in which I am working, and it's my first time so little un experienced. @Dele 123: Who's "we"? Zoerecords? Timtrent left a message on the draft itself, which is all you need to know. Read that. I'll warn you now that if you come at writing this draft with the intent to advertise, the draft won't be accepted. Embrace neutrality. Imagine you're from 100 years in the future. What evidence could you provide to show why anyone would care about this company? If you approach this dispassionately and base the entry not on what you contemporaneously want to tell but what third persons can learn from facts, you'll get a better result. The reason for rejection "Copyright violation" is in error. I am the author of the SELDM model, the government web page and the government reports that document and describe the model (please see http://webdmamrl.er.usgs.gov/g1/fhwa/SELDM.htm), which I wrote as a USGS Government Scientist. According to United States Copyright law (http://www.usa.gov/copyright.shtml):

"A United States government work is prepared by an officer or employee of the United States government as part of that person's official duties. It is not subject to copyright in the United States and there are no copyright restrictions on reproduction, derivative works, distribution, performance, or display of the work.

Anyone may, without restriction under U.S. copyright laws:

reproduce the work in print or digital form; create derivative works; perform the work publicly; display the work; distribute copies or digitally transfer the work to the public by sale or other transfer of ownership, or by rental, lease, or lending."


So, as author of the original works, I am not plagiarizing myself and as a US Government Scientist I am following US Copyright law.

I was asked to create a Wikipedia page to be similar to the US EPA stormwater model https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Storm_Water_Management_Model

Although there is a page on a government server, it is buried on an obscure location and more academic than the proposed Wikipedia page. The Wikipedia page will add to Wikipedia, but more importantly will help environmental students, engineers, planners, and decision makers find the model and (hopefully) use it improve the environment.

I started editing a few articles last year and I hope to contribute to many hydrology & stormwater Wikipedia pages, so my intentions are good.

The subject page is completely factual and has many references to published scientific reports and journal articles, which are the source of the information. I also cross-linked to other wikipedia pages to help potential readers find information. I hope to add graphics and more information as time allows.

If I may comment on the quality of my article in comparison to the guidelines (and many other wikipedia pages). The text was written by a Scientist, the original text was edited by a professional editor (therefore I'm reluctant to mash up the text just to make it different) , the article is very-well referenced. Once approved (and I find the time), I plan on adding graphics comparable to the SWMM wikipedia page https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Storm_Water_Management_Model or the MODFLOW page https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MODFLOW

Re: Draft:Illyrian Swimming Association

Hello, What is constituted as Copyright ? I created the " Illyrian Swimming Association" a 501c3 sports organization. I created its logos and platform. I have tried to create a wiki page but I keep getting declared as my page fails copyright rules. What is going on ?

IllyrianDodona, how are we supposed to know that you are the copyright holder? The automatic copyright violation detector is to protect your rights as a content creator. It can't just assume that you're the same person who wrote the website. You could donate the contents of your webpage to Wikipedia, which would remove any copyright issue, but that would mean that anyone in the world could copy and modify the content of your website.
Further, copying an "About Us!!!" page is almost always a recipe for failure, because an organization's own website, and a Wikipedia article about it, are completely different things, so it's always a bad idea to just copy a group's website and try to get it published as an article. An article must be written from an outside perspective. I strongly advise you read WP:Notability to understand what an article needs.MatthewVanitas (talk) 19:11, 21 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
