From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Sure We Can COVID-19 Wikipedia Task Force is a digital outreach program that began on September 6th, 2020 during the Coronavirus pandemic based out of Sure We Can, a multi-lingual recycling and community center in Bushwick, Brooklyn, NYC. This task force project focuses on wikipedia editing and writing to share simple, factual information on the Coronavirus Pandemic in New York City with the goal of explaining the seriousness of the pandemic. The project specifically focuses on translation and the multi-lingual population of New York City. We believe that the more the global population understands the serious nature of the pandemic, the quicker it will be over, as masking and vaccine measures will slow the spread of COVID-19. The SWC COVID-19 Digital Task Force is part of broader COVID-19 outreach programs of Sure We Can. The COVID-19 efforts at Sure We Can have included COVID testing, handing out of masks and sanitizers, vaccine appointment assistance, healthcare assistance, translation assistance, information outreach, and this digital task force. The COVID-19 programs at Sure We Can are funded by a grant from the NYC Health + Hospitals. During the four edit-a-thons focused on COVID-19, we translated the COVID-19 pandemic in New York City article into Spanish, Tagalog, Korean, Russian, Japanese, Portuguese, Polish, Greek, Haitian Creole, Yoruba, Malagasy, Hebrew, Swahili, and more. Since September, 2020, the articles written during the four Edit-a-thons have been viewedover 14,000 times.
