A Learning object is an object used to present a large context in a small package. At Wikiversity, Superclass constructs are used to establish learning situations that are capable of keeping students focused upon tasks. The philology is that m:educational processes are fueled by attention to interesting "things" (objects). The table to the right is designed to capture the imagination of a learner. The philosophy is that by capturing the imagination, the program is able to adapt to the needs of the student not the other way around.

In the context of sociology, the "novelties" in the learning object are chosen relative to the m:learner's attributes which are tracked by the m:grading automaton and used to build a maturity profile.
