Project Eurovision Cup[edit]

The Project Eurovision Cup, which will be awarded to the editor who achieves first place.

This page explains the rules for the WikiProject Eurovision Cup. Hopefully, having the rules being explained like this will prevent any confusion or the need for mid-competition clarification. The judges reserve the right to adjudicate in the spirit of the rules, rather than to their letter.

The most important rule is that the WikiProject Eurovision Cup is just a bit of fun — at the end of the day, we're all here to improve articles on Wikipedia and throughout Project Eurovision. The second most important rule is to treat Wikipedia and other users with respect. If through the WikiProject Eurovision Cup any participants are hurting the encyclopaedia (whether through abusing the rules/systems, creating a negative atmosphere, or whatever else), they will be removed from the Cup.

The aim of the competition is to help improve many of the articles within Project Eurovision that would have been otherwise left neglected, by carrying out as many objectives as possible. The more objectives you do, the more points you will earn. The objectives and their corresponding points are as shown below. The competition itself is based loosely upon the concept of the WikiCup which is an annual competition organised by volunteers to help improve articles across many topical areas on Wikipedia. The rules will not change mid-competition, though clarifications will occasionally be added to this page.

If in doubt, ask one of the judges via their talk pages or directly on the competition talk page. You shouldn't need to worry too much as the judges will do all the contribution checks, and an in-built algorithm on the scoreboard will do the calculations. The first contest will be a one-month pilot scheme, so that the judges can do any final tweaks to the competition itself and how it will operate. Thereafter, the competition will be quarterly (every three-months). The winners will awarded the The Eurovision Cup via their talk page.

Rules[edit]

The Eurovision Cup starts on the first day of the month, on a quarterly-cycle; any contributions made prior to the start date will not be counted. The début competition was just for a one-month pilot period, so that the judges could test how the contest would run and iron out any glitches. Thereafter, the contest went on to being run as a quarterly event (recurring every three months). This is so that participants have reasonable time for any GA/FA reviews and the subsequent scores added to their tally. The winner's are announced shortly after each contest has concluded. All dates and times are based on United Kingdom time zone (the time zone used by the judges).

Example
  • Members will be invited to register for participation. They also have the right to withdraw participation at any given time; but subsequent contributions made thereafter will not be counted.
  • Contributions based on the scoring system below, that are made during a contest will be totalled up in the scoreboard at the bottom of this page.
  • At the close of competition, the project member who receives the highest total score will be crowned the winner and their trophy posted on their talk page.
  • Scores are then reset back to zero ready for the start of a new contest.
  • The scoring system can be found in the table below.
  • A full list of monthly winners and runner-ups will be published here.
  • Once a member has registered for participation, they will continue to be registered for future contests until they decide to withdraw from participation.
