About

[edit]

Wikipedia’s gender trouble is well-documented. In a 2011 survey, the Wikimedia Foundation found that less than 10% of its contributors were women. While the reasons for the gender gap are up for debate, the practical effect of this disparity is not: content is skewed by the lack of representation from women. Let's fix that! Art + Feminism works on adding content to Wikipedia related to gender, art and feminism. At Hollins, we plan to focus on artists associated with the university as faculty, alums, or artists-in-residence.

In 2018, the library co-hosted our first-ever two Edit-a-Thon events with the Eleanor D. Wilson Museum.

The Black Lunch Table

[edit]

The Black Lunch Table is an ongoing collaboration between artists Jina Valentine and Heather Hart which intends to fill holes in the documentation of contemporary art history. In its 10 year existence, the BLT has taken a variety of forms including the Wikipedia edit-a-thon. They have a comprehensive list of articles that need to be created/improved and a list of resources to help with editing.

Women in Red

[edit]

Women in Red (WiR) is a WikiProject whose objective is to turn "redlinks" into blue ones within the project scope: women's biographies and works by women. They have a redlist index by occupation of stubs/articles that need to be created. This list includes visual artists, art historians, individuals notable for contributions to theatre, and more.
