September 2012 – Healthcare in India and Bharat Mata

[edit]

For the month of September Healthcare in India was selected as the collaboration of the month and Bharat Mata was selected as the GA/FA of the month. Here's a brief report -

Healthcare in India - collaboration of the month
  • Dwaipayanc expanded the article and created a new section on public and private sector. Other significant contributors were Barkha dhamechai and Abhijeet Safai.
  • We made limited progress, but I wouldn't call this a successful collaboration.

Bharat Mata – GA/FA of the month

Calling this a colossal failure would be an understatement. This article saw a total of two edits in September and even those were from IPs. Six editors including the nominator had been enthusiastic about this at the nomination stage. Why none of them made a single edit in any of the following months needs to be examined. We, as voters, can learn a few lessons from this:

  • Let us not !vote for something only because it is an "interesting topic". Each of us individually should have a reasonable idea of how we can contribute to the nominated article. If there is nothing one can do to improve an article, it's best not to !vote for it.
  • Bharat Mata had few resources available via GBooks. We can't expand an article without references being easily available to all the editors.
  • Two is too much. One article per month is evidently more than enough for us. Correct Knowledge«৳alk» 23:53, 4 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

August 2012 – Red fort and Bhopal disaster

[edit]

For the month of August Red Fort was selected as the collaboration of the month and Bhopal disaster was selected as the GA/FA of the month. Here's a brief report -

Red Fort - collaboration of the month

Statistics -

Total number of edits 147
Number of participants 12
Increase in number of words 518
Number of references added 26
  • The collaboration was reasonably successful. With some effort this article can become a GA.

Bhopal disaster – FA of the month
  • Ineck who is not an INCOTM member but has expertise in the subject and 537 edits in the article continued contributing during August. Among INCOTM members Yash! stood out with 100+ edits. Jobin RV and Доктор прагматик were other editors with significant contributions.
  • The article was promoted to GA status in September. In December, a GA reassessment was done after which the article was delisted as GA. This was nevertheless a great effort by all editors involved in improving the article.

Statistics -

Total number of edits 189
Number of participants 7
Increase in number of words 2052
Number of references added –3

Both the articles saw significant improvement in August. Thank you for participating. Correct Knowledge«৳alk» 13:34, 4 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Additional COTM - Independence Day (India)

[edit]

Hi all. On account of Independence Day, we had decided to go for an additional GA of the month for August 2012. The nominations and voting were closed on 20th July itself as we already had less time to work and achieve the desired goal.

Work began immediately on the article and within 10 days, the article was a GA!! Thanks to the brilliant efforts by the editors and the reviewer involved. We were able to achieve the goal well in advance and even aimed for a FAC!

  • During the period of collaboration, 277 edits were made by 54 users.
  • Lead section was improved.
  • 2 new images were added to the article.
  • 45 references were added and consistency amongst them was ensured.
  • Currently, the article is Featured Article Candidate (FAC). The article will take some time I guess to get reviewed.

Overall collaboration -  Pass

June 2012 - Mary Kom and Indian Cuisine

[edit]

Hello fellow Wikipedians! Time again to analyse the previous month's collaborations. Last month, Mary Kom was chosen for the normal COTM and Indian cuisine for taking upto GA status. Here's a report of how things went by.

Mary Kom - Collaboration of the Month

  • The article didn't see much collaboration this time.
  • Only the lead section was improved and some other sections saw a bit of copyediting.
  • The "Achievements" section was converted into a table and looks better now.
  • References were added, but their reliability still remains a question.
  • The article is messed with copyright violations. Sadly, those were detected last night. Someone should have checked this before.
  • No images were added. The article lacks one. Could not find on Flickr as well.

Statistics -

Total number of edits 96
Number of participants 15
Increase in number of words 132[1]
Number of references added 20
  • Major contributors during the period under question were User:Jobin RV, myself, User:Bill william compton and User:Vyom25. The Boxing Barnstar has been awarded to them.
  • Still, the article requires cleanup and we should not leave this article in this state. We need to work together on this and remove all the issues.
  • Overall collaboration -  Fail

Indian cuisine - for taking upto GA/FA status

  • Contrary to what happened at Mary Kom, Indian cuisine saw great activity right from the start.
  • The article was long enough and most of the content was present.
  • What needed to be worked upon was verifying the existing info and some general clean-up.
  • The article looks as colourful as it was before the start of collaboration, though some images were removed due to overcrowding! Image allignment was worked upon as per the GA standards.
  • The lead section was expanded and split into three paras.
  • One new section on "Dietary restrictions" was added.

Statistics -

Total number of edits 411
Number of participants 50
Increase in number of words 534
Number of references added 109

That's all for this month. See you all editing hard on the next month's COTM's - Clothing in India and Mumbai.

Happy editing, happy collaborating! --BPositive (talk) 07:26, 1 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

May 2012 - President of India and Anil Kumble

[edit]

Hi all,

It's time to analyse the previous month's collaborations. Last month, President of India was chosen as the COTM and Anil Kumble for taking upto GA/FA status. Here's a brief account of how things went by.

President of India - Collaboration of the Month

  • The article saw healthy collaboration in the first three weeks. Most of the work which could have been done was done during this period and hence there was slightly less activity in the last week. Nevertheless, the collaboration, as the trend continues, was a successful one.
  • Statistics -
Total number of edits 207
Number of participants 32
Increase in number of words 92
Number of references added 59
  • Number of words increasing merely by 92 was no surprise, the article being a general topic and most of the info was already present.
  • One new sub-section "Pardoning Powers" was added and others saw some addition of info wherever required.
  • An article of this importance had only 11 references. The editors focused on the referencing part and amazing things happened! 59 references were added which gave strength to the article and improved its quality. INCOTM continues its trend of improving and increasing the citations.
  • Having said that, this time no new images were added and there were only 3 editors doing the actual collaboration – User:Karthikndr, User:Barkha dhamechai and User:Ansumang. Satyamev Jayte barnstars have been awarded to them for their rigorous and tireless work.

Anil Kumble - GA/FA of the month

  • Anil Kumble, was again a successful collaboration. The article has shaped up quite nicely and most of the GA criteria have been worked upon. I got some folks from WikiProject Cricket for this article and we had a great time! The article has already been nominated for GA.
  • Statistics -
Total number of edits 279
Number of participants 18
Increase in number of words - 241
Number of references added 57
  • Again, over here the number of words decreased owing to some cleanup initially and copyediting. Much info was not added. There was movement of info from one section to another and everything is now in its proper place. The article was restructured.
  • Referencing improved significantly!
  • One new image of him with his family members was added.
  • The list of his Man of the Series awards, Test wicket milestones and Captaincy record were formatted as per the MoS.
  • Major contributors on this article were during the period of collaboration were User:TheSpecialUser, User:Vyom25, User:Vensatry and myself. The Googly barnstar has been awarded to them for their efforts.

While concluding, I would like to mention that getting some friends from WikiProject Cricket has increased the member strength. They are ready to contribute in the forthcoming collaborations as well. This idea seems to be working good, of course keeping it going is a challenge. For June, my target will be WikiProject:Food and drink. Will try to get some folks to edit Indian Cuisine.

That's all for now. Happy editing, happy collaborating!

April 2012 - Gateway of India and Tripura

[edit]

Hi all,

Gateway of India was the article chosen as the Collaboration of the Month(COTM) for the month of April 2012. Here’s how things went by.

  • Initially, there was very less activity on the article. It seemed that the COTM would be a complete flop untill User:Karthikndr came up with some good edits in the third week and then the article picked up. Thus, what seemed to be an unsuccessful COTM, was actually a successful one. The article was also selected for the edit-a-thon organized on the 22nd of April which got some significant contributions.
  • Some statistics -
Total number of edits 155
Number of participants 20
Increase in number of words 695
Average words added per edit 4.50
Number of images added 6
  • There was quite some improvement to the lead section. Three new sections - “Design and Structure”, “Significance” & “Terror Attacks” were added. Number of references increased from 2 to 34!! Grammar and tone of the article was also worked upon.

GA/FA of the month - Tripura

  • Tripura was the article selected for GA/FA of the month. The article has improved quite well. While the number of references doubled, the sections - “Geography and Climate” , “Flora and Fauna” saw expansion. Basics (reference style, reliable sources, planned coverage) are well covered and the article is pretty close to GA nomination. Perhaps, some work can be done in the coming days and we’ll have a GA! :)

That’s all for April 2012 folks :) See you all for the next month’s COTM.

Cheers! BPositive (talk) 18:10, 30 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

March 2012 - A. P. J. Abdul Kalam

[edit]

Hello Wikipedians!

A. P. J. Abdul Kalam was the article selected for the INCOTM for the month of March 2012. Here’s a short report of how things went by.

During the period under question, A. P. J. Abdul Kalam had 205 edits from 32 contributors. The number of contributors were more this time, though the contribs from regular members were missing. Some of the improvements were-

  • Size increased from 1808 words to 2401 words (fair enough).
  • Improvements were made to some of the pre-existing sections like "Career as scientist", "Awards & Honours".
  • New sections - "Presidency", "Popular culture" were added to the article.
  • Reference count shooted up from 31 to 73 (which is a great achievement).
  • An image of him with Vladamir Putin was added.
  • Internal links and grammar were also improved.

However,

  • I feel that more work could have been done in this COTM. Some of the regular members were missing this time. Remember, APJ had got 11 votes.
  • More images could have been added considering the popularity of the subject.
  • There was very less activity in the latter half of the month. Perhaps, I missed the feel of collaboration over there.

Anyway, the top editors of A. P. J. Abdul Kalam for the month March 2012 were:

With toolserver down, I’m not stating the number of edits made by these folks. To encourage contribution, they have been awarded a barnstar for taking time and effort to participate. It was all Karthikndr + Kondicherry show in the beginning and Hisham chipped in towards the end with what he does best :). I shall be sending WikiLoves to other contributors as well. :)

All in all, a fair enough COTM. Hoping for some healthy editing on the next month's COTM - Gateway of India and the GA/FA article of the month - Tripura.

Happy collaborating guys! BPositive (talk) 13:54, 2 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
