The goal of the WikiProject Indian villages is to create comprehensive articles on Indian villages. The project also aims to improve, organize section contents, provide ideas for standardized look and feel of articles related to the villages of India.

The scope of this article fundamentally is loosely defined as all articles and sections relating to Indian villages. Almost all of these will be (eventually) categorized under Category:Villages in India.

Goals

  1. Creation of a generally standard look and feel for all Indian villages.
  2. To improve Wikipedia coverage of Indian villages articles by adding, expanding and improving.

These are the sections that should be included.

Lead

The lead comes before the Table of Contents. It should summaries key aspects of the village such as, location in tehsil, district, state. It should have a minimum of one to two medium sized paragraphs.

Note:Avoid Indic scripts in lead as per WP:INDICSCRIPTS.

  • Rating: Compulsory
  • Length: 1-2 paragraph(s)

Etymology

Etymology should include the meaning of the village name (if it has any) and its transformation over times.

  • Rating: Section optional; inclusion important
  • Length: minimum one large paragraph, or two small paragraphs.

History

The history section should describe the dynasties, kingdoms which rules it in the past. The history section should be around two to three mid-sized paragraphs. Do not use subheadings.

  • Rating: Compulsory
  • Length: 3-4 paragraphs; summarize/precise if longer, add detail to another page.

Geography

Describe the village location and its surroundings such as, water bodies, mountains, forests and islands etc.

Climate

Mention the seasons, weather, rainfall. Temperature records if possible. The climate section can also be a standalone section.

Geology (optional)

Like, earthquakes, ores and minerals found.

  • Rating: Compulsory
  • Length: Varies. Try not to exceed 5 paragraphs if geology and climate are both included in the main geography section.

Demographics

The population, households, literacy, sex ratio etc. Also, the languages spoken, ethnic groups in another paragraph.

  • Rating: Very Important
  • Length: maximum three

Government and politics

Mention the local government like Gram panchayats and its administrative activities. The number of wards it has, elected representatives such as, Sarpanchs, Vice-Sarpanchs, Village Revenue Officers, etc can be mentioned. Awards and achievements of the village.

Political parties, constituency in which the village falls and its elected representatives etc., can be added.

  • Length: Not more than four paragraphs.

Economy

Primary activities which generates income like agriculture, aquaculture, local businesses, commercial areas, industries (if any), other occupations of the villagers. The main crops produced, agri businesses and its exports.

  • Rating: Compulsory
  • Length: Not more than four paragraphs.

Culture and tourism

Mention art, architecture, film, literature etc., Also, mention notable personalities in these fields. Cuisines, clothing and local festivals of importance can also be included. Tourism info should not be a promotional, but mention the landmarks such as, heritage sites, most notable religious worship centers, beaches (if a coastal village), any other landmarks in the village.

Do not add lists, mention most notable with proper references.

  • Rating: Important
  • Length: not more than five paragraphs.
