Allow me to present Roy Drummond (nicknamed from youth, and later officially, "Peter"), a World War I ace and one of the highest-ranking Australians to serve in the Royal Air Force. Having created this ten years ago, my memory's a little hazy, but I think I became interested in him because for a while it looked like he might be the solution to the long-running conflict between George Jones and William Bostock over command of the Royal Australian Air Force in World War II. It wasn't to be, though -- the Jones-Bostock feud continued to simmer and Drummond ended up losing his life in a plane crash over the Azores in 1945. This has been GA for yonks but I was never satisfied with some of the sourcing, so have recently expanded it and improved the referencing to a level I think commensurate with A-Class, and perhaps FA. Let me know what you think! Tks/cheers, Ian Rose (talk) 06:15, 20 January 2018 (UTC)
CommentsSupport from PM
- in the lead
- perhaps mention that his Australian posting was as Director of Operations and Intelligence?
- Okay.
- perhaps "On return to Britain..."
- Prefer not as the events didn't occur immediately after he returned...
- suggest "knighted in the same order..."
- Okay.
- perhaps mention that Air Member for Training was on the Air Council?
- Didn't feel I could incorporate that easily in the sentence but linked AMT to Air Council.
- link hospital ship
- Done.
- should it be No. 67 Squadron RFC?
- I thought "numbered No." was a bit much, and in fact if you check the RAF website I think they tend to use just the figure without "No." in front.
- the London Gazette, should the link just be to London Gazette, or should it be The?
- I think the former is better -- done.
- the sentence beginning "According to his own account..." is really too long, and could be broken up into three
- I thought keeping it all together with commas and semi-colon made it clearer that it was all his account and therefore the quotes were all his, but have split into three sentences as suggested.
- suggest "and the newly-formed Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF)"?
- Fair enough.
- was his wife a relation of any of the notable Drake-Brockman's?
- Yes. Brigadier General Edmund Drake-Brockman was her cousin. He gave the bride away at the wedding. [1] Hawkeye7 (discuss) 11:51, 23 January 2018 (UTC)
- Heh, I have to admit I stopped checking when I saw that her father Paris was not wiki-notable, so tks guys for pushing it... ;-) Cheers, Ian Rose (talk) 08:10, 24 January 2018 (UTC)

- suggest that the latter half of the sentence beginning with "and that the latter" be moved down to after his death. as it is rather abrupt where it is
- Let me think about this one...
- Hi PM, rejigged things a bit so see pls have a look -- if okay I think this would wrap up my responses to your comments. Tks/cheers, Ian Rose (talk) 07:59, 26 January 2018 (UTC)

- Drummond succeedied
- So much for spell-check -- fixed.
- MiD is duplicate linked
- Fixed.

- Tks Hawkeye! Cheers, Ian Rose (talk) 08:10, 24 January 2018 (UTC)
Support: not a lot stood out to me, Ian. Nice work, as usual. I have the following review points: AustralianRupert (talk) 05:35, 26 January 2018 (UTC)
- in the Early career section, I suggest adding his date of birth
- a couple of the images are lacking alt text, which you may wish to add (although it isn't a requirement): [2]
- Tks for those two points, Rupert -- testament to how long it's been since this was last reviewed, when no-one was concerned with such things.... ;-)
- there are no dab links, and the external links all work (no action required)
- the article is well written and referenced in a consistent manner (no action required)
- the article appears comprehensive in its coverage (no action required)
- is there an oclc number that could be added for the Australian Encyclopedia volume in the References?
- Well yes and no... I checked WorldCat when I was enhancing the article and found several editions with OCLCs but not the edition I used, so I thought best not use one that wasn't precise -- WDYT? Cheers, Ian Rose (talk) 06:32, 26 January 2018 (UTC)
- Interesting, I could only find two entries for 1958 (neither of them the right one): [3]. Oh well. No dramas. Regards, AustralianRupert (talk) 07:14, 26 January 2018 (UTC)
