The railroad of the Bennettsville and Cheraw Railroad Company, hereinafter called the carrier, is a single-track, standard-gauge, steam railroad, located in northeastern South Carolina. The main line extends southerly from Kollocks to Sellers, a distance of 42.012 miles, with a branch line projecting from Blenheim Junction to Blenheim, aggregating 43.789 miles of main track. The carrier also owns 6.957 miles of yard tracks and sidings. Its road thus embraces 50.746 miles of all tracks owned but not used. The entire railroad property of the carrier is leased to and operated by W. R. Bonsal.


The property of the carrier has been operated from the date its original 13.82 miles of railroad was put in operation to date of valuation as indicated below.

CORPORATE HISTORY

The carrier was incorporated February 27, 1899, under special act of the State of South Carolina, as the Bennettsville and Osborne Railroad Company for the purpose of constructing and operating a railroad from Bennettsville, S. C., to a point at or near Osborne, S. C. The name of the company was changed on June 23, 1902, to the Bennettsville and Cheraw Railroad Company. On June 23, 1902, and on December 8, 1904, its charter was amended, authorizing the construction of a railroad from Cheraw to Bennettsville, S. C., and in a southerly direction from the latter point to some point on the Atlantic coast in South Carolina, instead of between Bennettsville, S. C., and a point at or near Osborne, S. C. The date of its organization has not been determined.

The owned mileage of the carrier, 43.789 miles, was all acquired by construction. The years the various portions of line were constructed are indicated in the following statement.
