The railroad of the Electric Short Line Railway Company, is a single-track, standard-gauge, steam railroad, located in southeastern Minnesota. The main line extends westerly from Luce Line Junction to Hutchinson, 55.133 miles. The Electric Short Line Railway also owns 7.931 miles of yard tracks and sidings. Its road thus embraces 63.064 miles of all tracks owned and used. In addition it has trackage rights over the double-track road of the carrier [Electric Short Line Terminal Company] between Luce Line Junction and the terminal depot at Holden and Seventh Streets, Minneapolis, 3.06 miles.

CORPORATE HISTORY

The Electric Short Line Railway was incorporated December 1, 1908, under the general laws of the State of Arizona, for the purpose of conducting a general transportation business. The date of organization was December 1, 1908.

DEVELOPMENT OF FIXED PHYSICAL PROPERTY

The owned mileage of the Electric Short Line Railway, 55.133 miles, was acquired by construction. The years in which the various portions of the line were constructed are shown in the following table:

Some 8 miles of the above road were sufficiently completed that rails had been laid thereon and some 25 miles had been partially constructed prior to 1912 either by or through the Phoenix Loan & Investment Company for account of the Electric Short Line Railroad Company, the name of which was later changed to Electric Short Line Terminal Company. This particular property was either acquired direct by the Electric Short Line Railway or the contract therefor was assigned to it. The portion on which rails had been laid and the portion partially constructed can not be identified from the records reviewed. Some work was done during 1916 on an extension westerly from Hutchinson, but was discontinued in the fall of that year and had not been resumed to date of valuation. The above road was constructed partly by H. F. Balch & Company and others under contract, and partly by company forces. The records reviewed do not indicate that any of the contractors were affiliated with the Electric Short Line Railway.
