From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This is exciting! You are going to create your first article. Here are some guidelines and a description of what to consider when planning your first article. Remember, Wikipedia is an encyclopaedia so all information should be factual and the information should be presented in a balanced way. Also, your new articles should follow some guidelines: for example, the topic should be notable (i.e. it should have some detailed coverage in good references from independent sources). Please read Five pillars for the basics.

Check if your subject is already on Wikipedia[edit]

Please note, before you start your article you should check if it already exists on Wikipedia. To do this, you will have to visit http://en.wikipedia.org and type the title of your proposed article in the search box. If your article is not yet on Wikipedia, then you can move onto creating an article below.

What if my article exists but there is very little information?[edit]

If there is an article, but there is very little information, this is called a stub-class article. It usually has a box on its Talk page saying so. If this is the case, you can click on the Edit button on Wikipedia, and copy the code in the edit box. Come back to this page and create an article below using the same title. Paste the information that you got from the article on Wikipedia into the edit box that will be created. Remember, this step may only be done if you have access to the internet.

To create a new article:[edit]

  • Enter the title of new article in the white field below.
  • Press the Create an Article button under the field.
