Wikipedia:Wiki Academy Albania 2017

Wiki Academy Albania 2017 is a Wikipedia article writing workshop event planned for April 7th, 2017, and designed to be a writing contest in which students from all over Albania will improve content about Albania on English Wikipedia and its sister projects, like Wikidata and Wikimedia Commons.

The project kicks off on April 7th, 2017, in the city of Shkodër in Northern Albania. 100 high school students will attend a hands-on workshop delivered by Wikimedians where they will learn the basics of editing Wikipedia and its sister projects. The focus will consist of articles about Albania written in English (means on English Wikipedia).

The following month, the participants will write as many articles as possible. Wins the one who wrote most articles or improved most existent articles. Their contributions need to need Wikipedia standards, and will be regularly checked by the organizers.

Contest rules

Timezone: UTC + 1

1. All the users participating at the workshop on April 7th are allowed to participate in the contest. Organizers cannot participate.
2. Articles should be written between 00:01 April 7 and 23:59 May 7, 2017.
3. Articles should be written on a topic related to Albania, and should be written on English Wikipedia.
4. Articles should follow basic standards of English Wikipedia:
   1. to be written in English; automated translations are disqualified;
   2. to describe a notable topic (read Wikipedia:Notability);
   3. to contain verifiable information (read Wikipedia:Verifiability);
   4. to follow Wikipedia's Manual of Style (read Wikipedia:Manual of Style);
   5. to not contain copyvio text (read Wikipedia:FAQ/Copyright).
5. New articles with a total of at least 200 words of prose / 2,500 bytes are accepted, as well as existent articles that were extended at least five times (in bytes).
   1. Shorter articles are also accepted, but they should not be less than 1000 bytes in size.
6. Participants will not have their contributions counted if they do not use the following templates:
   1. Insert {{Wiki Academy Albania 2017 Article|user=USERNAME}} in the talk page of created/improved article
   2. Insert {{Wiki Academy Albania 2017 Participant}} in their own user page (Special:Mypage)
7. The points are counted as follows:
   1. Every new article: 1 point.
   2. Every existent (as of April 7) article that has been extended five times in bytes: 1 point.
   3. Every new article which is shorter than 2,500 but longer than 1,000 bytes: 0.5 points.
   4. Outstanding formatting or orthographic issues in an article: -0.8 points.
