The course is a general digital media literacy course, covering issues around social media and cell phone use, the effects of algorithms on information, the problems of "fake news," concerns about piracy and privacy, and the role of hashtag activism in advancing social causes. Also a section on crowdsourcing and web 2.0 that could benefit from a more direct consideration of Wikipedia. I am currently considering the use of Wikipedia in place of a blog assignment I usually give at the end of the course. Still looking at what is possible in terms of writing and research for the class, which is a general education course with students from a variety of disciplinary backgrounds.
