This is a wiki-edit-a-thon in which you will learn how to edit Wikipedia pages. The goal is to combat racial and gender bias on Wikipedia by contributing biographies on women and people of color in Chemistry and Physics. By the end July 2022, the goal is to add a new page, or make improvements on an existing page, about a scientist from one or more of the underrepresented groups in chemistry and physics.

Why should we write on Wikipedia? Why should we write about women and underrepresented groups on Wikipedia? This page (click) will give you the information you need to answer this question. Please read the article at this web address.
Facts:
- It matters who EDITS wikipedia.
- Most editors are from Western coutries, identify as white men, are between 22-30 years old, with some college education, no partner, no children.
- Only 13% of editors are Women (compared to 50% polulation).
- Only 5.2% of editors are Hispanic or Latino/a/x (compared to 18% US population).
- Only 0.5 % of editors are Black or African American (copare to 13% US population)
- Only 20% of the biographies on Wikipedia are about women.
Through this project, you will also learn how knowledge is constructed, and you will gain skills in digital literacy. I hope that this experience will help you in your life, career, and scholarship outside of this experience (see how Wikipedia Projects like this help combat fake news).
