Through readings, films, in-class discussion, and writing assignments, students in this course will examine the roles that Nature and Nurture play during language development, addressing (among other things) the critical period for language learning and what happens if the right kind of input is not received during that time. This course counts fulfills the College Intensive Writing requirement.

  • Our Wikipedia extra credit assignment is due on W 5/7 by 7pm. To understand Wikipedia as a community, we'll discuss its expectations and etiquette in class.

By completing this assignment, you can earn up to 4 percentage points of extra credit:

  • one point for completing the two Wikipedia training modules listed below,  through which you will learn the basic rules of Wikipedia and make edits in a sandbox (added to your course grade)
  • up to two points for adding new information to a Wikipedia article that relates to your final paper (one point per contentful edit, added to your research paper grade)
  • one point for completing the reflection assignment after making edits, which you will find on Canvas (added to your course grade)
