The features of cells and tissues in light microscopy will be correlated to physiologic function at the molecular, organelle, cellular, tissue and organ level. Tissues of plants and vertebrate animals will be emphasized, but a small number of invertebrate animals will also be considered.

The learning objectives of this module (which accrues as extra credit, after the final grades have been computed) are: 1. Become conversant with the Wikipedia culture 2. Properly capture, label and reference photomicrographs 3. Improve open access botany content

Assignment - Create a good quality plant photomicrograph
  • Identify an article that would benefit from a plant photomicrograph. Capture an appropriate photo, label important anatomic features and upload it to the dashboard.

    • All media uploaded to Wikipedia must fall under a "free license," which means they can be used or shared by anyone. For this exercise, you may only use photomicrographs, which you have taken yourself.  See the Biology 360 website for a complete discussion of capturing plant histology images.  For more information about which types of media can be uploaded to Wikipedia, see Commons:Help desk.

Week 3

Milestones

Your image, including labeling of microanatomy features, plant species and magnification, should be improved in accordance with my feedback from the draft you uploaded last week.  You may now upload your image to Wikipedia Commons.  Review the "Illustrating Wikipedia" brochure for directions.  Then insert the image into an appropriate article.
