In this independent study course, students will participate in a public archaeology project, learn how to use Wikipedia as a tool in science communication, and interact with CRM "Pioneers in Americanist Archaeology" by creating biographies about these men and women.
Pioneers are leaders in the field of Cultural Resource Management (CRM), an interdisciplinary, professional field that encompasses archaeological, historical, architectural, and cultural studies conducted in compliance with Federal, state, and local regulations. The "Pioneers in Americanist Archaeology" project involves students researching and writing biographies of contributors to professional archaeology. Some of these individuals are well known in the discipline, while others remain (largely) “hidden figures”.
