Latest Club Updates

[edit]
  • To all students, hope your finals went well! Have a great winter break.
  • Faculty Support
    • Our previous advisor, Sarah Falls, has left the University. We're super grateful to have had her by our side for the last two semesters, and wish her luck at her new job!
    • Our new advisor is Brian Leaf, who serves as an Assistant Professor and Instructional Design Librarian with the Library's Research and Education. We now also have support from several others within Research and Education, including Beth Black, Meris Mandernach, and Josh Sadvari. We're looking forward to working with them on future events and projects!
  • Grant Request
    • We have submitted our grant request to the Wikimedia Foundation for review. The request is viewable here (feel free to review and endorse/comment!). The goal of this request is to be able to fund our activities for Spring 2016.
  • Next Semester
    • Speaking of Spring 2016, we've got quite a lot going on! We don't have too many details yet, but we have an overview. Some planned events and projects include:
      • Student Involvement Fair on January 14, 2016
      • A celebration event for Wikipedia's 15th birthday.
      • Weekly workshops, as we've been having last semester. We'll have a more regular schedule, and hopefully food this time.
      • More edit-a-thons, including the Art+Feminism Edit-a-thon in March.
      • Collaboration with University departments and libraries to improve Wikipedia.
      • We may try working with assistants of Ohio Senators and Representatives to improve content on Wikipedia. The project will be similar to work done by Wikimedia DC.
      • Working with interested professors and lecturers on implementing Wikipedia in the classroom as part of the Wikipedia Education Program.
      • A Wikipedia Takes Ohio State (or Columbus) event to photograph the newly-renovated campus.
    • As some of you may have noticed, the third floor of the 18th Avenue Library has been closed for renovations. Come Spring semester, the floor will be home to the brand new Research Commons. It's a great facility, and Josh Sadvari (who is the Common's manager) has expressed interest in having the floor be the home to future Wikipedia Connection events.
    • Our Fall 2015 Course Page will continue through the end of the year; our Spring 2016 Course Page will go live once the new year kicks in.

Good morning from the space station! NASA astronaut Scott Kelly took this photograph of a sunrise over the Western United States.
