Modified from Wikipedia:Main Page alternative (misty breeze), this is a work in progress. Expect ugly code and so on, and please view with Firefox for now. - Wintran (talk) 19:08, 8 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Idea

[edit]

My goal with this design is usability with clean and appealing graphics. I think the current Main Page is too cluttered with text and links, with too little space between objects, which decreases both usability and its visual appeal. I chose to center the main title to give it more emphasize (the title of a site should always be clearly visible on its main page) and placed a search box there which I believe could prove very useful for new users. I chose to modify Wikipedia:Main Page alternative (misty breeze) because I liked its box design, or more specifically, its design of icons and titles on the boxes. I also liked its simple placement of the portals, which I included in my version. Feel free to came with proposals or copy this design and make your own version of it. - Wintran (talk) 19:34, 8 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Margins within boxes

[edit]

Does anyone know why the margin-setting in the "featured article"-box doesn't affect the bottom text ("Recently featured..." etc)? Also, the "In the News"-box doesn't seem to apply the margin-settings either (at least not the right side). - Wintran (talk) 19:08, 8 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
