As De Gruyter publishes in more than one language and more than en-users will be interested in that case it should be on meta, shoudn't it? --Superbass (talk) 14:22, 9 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

  • My apologies, signups were not supposed to start here until they were announced globally next week. That was my error. For contrast, see WP:Elsevier where we properly made that clear.
  • Any editor from any community can apply here on English, despite that being understandably inconvenient and globally unfair.
  • Hosting signups on Meta is something we are looking into; however many editors are not active on Meta so we have to check their contribution history manually using SUL counts, many will not have email enabled on Meta, some may apply in multiple languages on Meta, we do not yet have our signup pages localized on meta, and we don't yet have a coordinator who is comfortable working on Meta. So it is a very wortwhile but still challenging idea that would take a little time to implement.
  • Alternately to Meta, we have contacted members of the German Wikipedia to set up and coordinate a local signup page. We do not yet have a volunteer who has agreed to do that yet. If you want to volunteer, or know someone who would, please mention that below.
  • Any Wikipedia language, particularly those in De Gruyter's languages, can set up their own signup pages (with our assistance). Please volunteer below if you would like to do that.
  • We have plenty of accounts and lots more if needed, so communities that set up signup processes later will still be sure to get accounts.
  • We are still working to get TWL properly global. We are not there yet, and it will take a little more time. Jake Ocaasi (WMF) (talk) 16:48, 10 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
As signup already started I suggest we keep it here. The problem that somebody has to check contributions in everybody's home wiki, remains. If you need help on german accounts, give me a notice. --Superbass (talk) 18:28, 10 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks Superbass. I've created a Meta signup page for anyone who feels more comfortable applying there. I just ask that editors submit only one application to whichever page they prefer. Meta: M:The_Wikipedia_Library/Journals/De_Gruyter Cheers, Jake Ocaasi (WMF) (talk) 19:59, 10 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Can't we just move the existing applications to meta? About half of De Gruyter's publications are in English, I understand, and the rest probably mainly in German. So we can expect a lot of applicants from de.wikipedia.org. And another thing, the "count" link in Template:User8 by default points to the user's contributions here, i.e. on en.wikipedia.org. Which is a misleading "count" for all users who are not mainly active here. The parameter "Project", e.g. {{User8|USERNAME|Project=de}} USERNAME (talk · contribs · central auth · count · email) would help. --Neitram (talk) 22:14, 10 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I don't really understand the third point. You always have to check the SUL account - even when applying at en.wikipedia there are a lot of users not active here. Thanks to SUL it's no problem for everyone to apply there. --APPER (talk) 14:09, 15 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
--Informationswiedergutmachung (talk) 22:14, 14 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Tag Informationswiedergutmachung: Können Sie diese Seite auf Meta in Deutsch übersetzen? (Entschuldigen Sie meine Fehler). Jake Ocaasi (WMF) (talk) 00:48, 15 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I asked for help on de:WP:FzW#en:Wikipedia:De Gruyter for the translation. --Informationswiedergutmachung (talk) 08:18, 15 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
@Ocaasi (WMF):: now available on German Wikipedia at de:Wikipedia:De Gruyter, only needs translation, but we will do that. --Informationswiedergutmachung (talk) 11:29, 15 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
@Ocaasi (WMF): It´s finished. I did my best. :-) --Partynia (talk) 21:03, 15 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Email and Google Form

[edit]

Hi, is it really neccesary to collect the data via a Google Form? Does the Wikimedia Foundation not have a better or even own way which avoids the transmissions of data via a third party? I don't have a problem with Google, it's a question of principle. Kind regards, --Emha (talk) 14:12, 13 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Emha. Thanks for your question, it's a fair one. What you're really seeing is the transition period between The Wikipedia Library as an Individual Engagement Grant and as a program. For the past 4 years TWL as a completely volunteer run project, and then a WMF-funded grant run by myself and a group of unpaid editors. It's only in September that we became a WMF-funded program. We are very aware that our system of collecting usernames is inconvenient, inefficient. It also, as you mention, unnecessary involves a third party in Google Forms.
What we are working on for the next 6 months is scoping and speccing an 'in-house' platform where editors would log in with OAuth to a system hosted on Wikimedia Labs, supply their username and email once, and never have to transmit that information again. It will take some time, however, for that application to develop. In the meantime, using a Google Form actually is the best way that we have to collect information and distribute access codes. I hope you understand that this is a transition period for us, and grant us a little room to grow as we become a more fully realized program and system. Best, Jake Ocaasi (WMF) (talk) 16:40, 13 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
@Ocaasi (WMF): Thanks for your answer. I wish you good luck for your intention. it sounds good! All the best, --Emha (talk) 07:42, 23 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

German Wikipedia

[edit]

I created a german version of the user box:

DGDieser Benutzer hat freien Zugang zu
Online-Publikationen von
De Gruyter

durch The Wikipedia Library.

The German user box (Babel) is located on the German Wikipedia at Benutzer:Partynia/Vorlage:De Gruyter.
German users with approved accounts may link to the german category de:Kategorie:Wikipedia:De Gruyter Zugangsrechte.--Partynia (talk) 22:35, 14 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Ocaasi_(WMF), I created a german site of the project. If you understand some german, please have a look and tell me, if it´s ok to apply there. What is to add? Where should the site be promoted? I added a link at the english page. Regards --Partynia (talk) 16:47, 15 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
We have problems with the citation information, because of the german WP citation rules. The discussion started at de:Wikipedia_Diskussion:De_Gruyter. --Partynia (talk) 09:03, 16 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Availability

[edit]

It is already known when the accounts will be available? --Melly42 (talk) 08:32, 3 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, we will release accounts in the next 2-4 weeks, probably in two big batches as signups roll through. We're always working to speed up this process but it's volunteer-intensive at the moment and like to set reasonable expectations. Best, Jake Ocaasi (WMF) (talk) 23:38, 12 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

New reference tool

[edit]

There is a new Visual Editor reference feature in development called Citoid. It is designed to "auto-fill" references using a URL or DOI. We would really appreciate you testing whether TWL partners' references work in Citoid. Sharing your results will help the developers fix bugs and improve the system. If you have a few minutes, please visit the testing page for simple instructions on how to try this new tool. Nikkimaria (talk) 04:45, 11 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

MEGA

[edit]

Hi! When looking at the volumes of the MEGA when logged in, I see the small icon telling me about “free access”, never the less there seems to be no way to access the PDF. What is the reason? Kind regards --Chricho ∀ (talk) 20:48, 9 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Expired account?

[edit]

Yesterday (31/12) I noticed that my De Gruyter account was no longer valid, because after logging in I had no access to the books and articles I could previously read. My German is not very good, but if I understand correclty from the de.wiki De Gruyter page, all the De Gruyter accounts were actually due to expire at the end of December or in January. If so, is there any news on a possible extension of our accounts? Thank you, ContinuaEvoluzione 11:49, 1 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Continua Evoluzione: De Gruyter have agreed to continue the partnership into 2016, so you should be hearing from Saehrimnir soon regarding the renewal of your account :) Sam Walton (talk) 12:51, 1 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@Samwalton9: Great, this is very good news! Thank you for your prompt reply, ContinuaEvoluzione 20:30, 1 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@Samwalton9: Thanks. I'm actually not sure if my account has expired or not as I'm able to log in. Saehrimnir's e-mail to me on account activation is dated 18/02/2015; so a full year's not up yet. However, material that I used to have access to on De Gruyter no longer appears to be accessible … --Cpt.a.haddock (talk) (please ping when replying) 12:32, 9 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Yesterday (25/02) I experienced the same problem as Continua Evoluzione: it seems that the my account has expired. Should I wait for a new token from Saehrimnir? Best, Daniele.tampieri (talk) 13:18, 26 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Not received an account

[edit]

I received an email in December asking me to submit my details, which I did. But I haven't received an account yet. I just wanted to check in case you'll have tried to send me an email and I haven't received it. The Discoverer (talk) 13:54, 8 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Expired token

[edit]

Hello, I'm getting a message telling I have no more access token. How to get a new one? Thanks in advance. Best regards. --— J. F. B. (me´n parlar) 08:11, 5 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Anybody here? Or elsewhere, if so where? --— J. F. B. (me´n parlar) 11:25, 20 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Jfblanc: Apologies that you didn't receive any reply until now. Please leave an 'application' on the project page asking for a renewal. We hope to be actively distributing De Gruyter access again soon. Thanks, Samwalton9 (WMF) (talk) 09:46, 31 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
