Flyer22[edit]

Per Wikipedia:Deceased Wikipedians/Guidelines, "If a user's death is announced on wiki by someone claiming to be a relation or a friend of the deceased, a checkuser may be conducted to authenticate such a claim." This has been done repeatedly, actually, after accusations of sockpuppetry back in the day. ArbCom and CUs are well aware that Halo_Jerk1 is in fact Flyer22_Frozen's brother. Flyer22 announced wiki-retirement at the end of 2020 due to health issues, and stopped responding to e-mails (despite being near-daily active with some of us) on around Jan. 13. Halo made the announcement, via e-mail, on Jan. 21, stating that she had passed on Jan. 16.  — SMcCandlish ¢ 😼  14:29, 21 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

A great loss; thanks for posting. Stay well and all the best, Miniapolis 00:20, 22 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

SMcCandlish, this doesn't have to be the same as the Signpost. This one is for the long term. SarahSV (talk) 06:30, 26 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

  • SMcCandlish, I'm not sure what you're aiming for. This obit is for the long term. It has nothing to do with the Signpost. The two obits need not be the same; in fact, better if they are not the same. The Signpost obit is for publication soon, and that's the one that needs the testimonials, signatures, etc (I would have thought). Yet the testimonials are here, not there. Even though you have copied everything else, you haven't copied those. SarahSV (talk) 00:54, 27 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I made this edit in response. The testimonials can be here too, but I really think they would be good in the Signpost. Crossroads -talk- 07:53, 27 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
"This obit is for the long term" is why I put them here to start with. Plus, more Wikipedians will see this version than Signpost's in the grand scheme of things. Flyer's user page links to it. It's not clear that all that many editors read Signpost anyway. Its editorial "staff" might trim down what they run with to fit into a particular space, or whatever; we have less control over it, and they have more constraints. I added an HTML comment note at the draft version of that one, about testimonials and literary quote in this so they can decide what to use for their purposes. We don't know who (even from Halo's circle of e-mail) is going to edit which page at what point, so I'd been looking periodically to synch them for key details like best articles to mention, privacy-relevant matters, etc. The Signpost version will become fixed in time when published, and this one will not (though will surely see fewer edits later). I kind of wish Signpost had run with whatever was at this obit on the day of their next issue instead of splitting them early, but so it goes.  — SMcCandlish ¢ 😼  18:50, 27 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Crossroads and SMcCandlish: I don't know anything about Signpost obits, so I'm editing only this one. There is a model here at the Signpost in case it's helpful as a structure. Re: keeping them the same, this page should not be forced to be in line with the Signpost. The other way round, maybe, or entirely different. SarahSV (talk) 23:03, 27 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

The issue is mainly that Halo is asking for specific changes, and they need to be worked into both copies. "The other way round" is what I was getting at; it's not been that productive that the Signpost version was split off, though it was great that FeydHuxtable worked some good material into it (which we've re-integrated here). Crossroads is addressing Halo's latest round of specific-articles-to-mention input, but I think only at the Signpost copy so far. No big hurry; just want to make sure the Signpost copy has everything it should by the time it is published and permanent, whatever the copy over here may develop into further.  — SMcCandlish ¢ 😼  23:54, 27 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Re: "Halo is asking for specific changes, and they need to be worked into both copies", no, they don't, and please don't do that here. This one is being written independently for the long term, not for the Signpost. Please let that happen. There are good reasons for it. SarahSV (talk) 00:01, 28 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
On second thoughts, I've decided to take this page off my watchlist, so please proceed as you both see fit. I'll be fine with it either way. SarahSV (talk) 02:43, 28 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I don't grok why there's even any tension about this stuff; I was pretty much done. :-) I have other stuff to content with, and Halo's specific-article changes were a little hard for me to keep track of (mostly because I don't know the history, like which were Flyer's main work, which were stuff she overhauled later, etc.)  — SMcCandlish ¢ 😼  23:22, 28 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I brought this more into line with the Signpost version, but didn't remember that the testimonials had been removed from here previously so I accidentally re-added them. Any reason not to have them here too? Crossroads -talk- 06:11, 29 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Igorp[edit]

@Nishidani: You added Igorp to Wikipedia:Deceased Wikipedians, but didn't add to Wikipedia:Deceased Wikipedians/2021? Do you have any sources for this info? Otherwise it should be removed. --TheSandDoctor Talk 16:00, 20 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Igor mainly edited the Russian wiki, but was involved, quite intensely for some years, with articles in the I/P area. Since I had his page bookmarked, I noticed that a Russian colleague, an administrator had notified the English page of his passing, and thought that this should be mentioned in the appropriately list. I expected that the Russian editor who posted this sad news on Igor's page would have the details. Nishidani (talk) 16:05, 20 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Ah, I see. Thank you! @TenBaseT: Where did you learn of Igor's passing? We should add a section to Wikipedia:Deceased Wikipedians/2021. --TheSandDoctor Talk 05:50, 21 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
