Idea[edit]

There should, in my opinion, be a template that could be used for a type of account similar to doppelgangers, except to prevent non-impersonating, but still inappropriate, usernames (e.g. "Administrator", "Block me", etc.). --Gray Porpoise 21:23, 23 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Wait... There's already Template:Doppelganger-other. --Gray PorpoisePhocoenidae, not Delphinidae 21:07, 8 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not sure that's what he meant...Alex43223 T | C | E 04:29, 14 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Question[edit]

The article mentions something of a "justified" sock puppet. Would this be, for example, using another account to discuss an edit with someone who holds a grudge against you and therefore making it unbalanced? Timekeeper 13:48, 23 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Doppelgangers are not justified sockpuppets; they are accounts created to prevent impersonation. They are similar usernames to the user's existing account, and are never, ever, used for editing, unlike sockpuppets, which are used for editing, and are intended to be unconnected to the user's existing account. For information on use of sockpuppets, the policy page is WP:SOCK. Essjay (Talk) 23:49, 23 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Merge[edit]

As discussed on WP:LAP, a new version has been written of the username policy, that essentially covers everything this page has to say (this page is admittedly kind of verbose). Hence it is suggested that this be merged and redirected there. >Radiant< 14:45, 6 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
