Optional homework before class: Consider who reads Wikipedia, what people expect from Wikipedia, what content on Wikipedia is highest quality, and what you might like to do on Wikipedia. Check the following lists:
- The top 25 most popular Wikipedia articles from last week
- The top 1000 articles by importance by the focus standards of a traditional encyclopedia
- The highest quality articles, about 4000 of them, which have passed Wikipedia's most comprehensive review
- Your own subject matter interests

Week 1: Why edit Wikipedia?

- Overview of the course
- Introduction to how Wikipedia will be used in the course
- Homework
- Create an account and then complete the online training for students. During this training, you will make edits in a sandbox and learn the basic rules of Wikipedia.
- Create a User page, and and click the "enroll" button on the top left of this course page.
- To practice editing and communicating on Wikipedia, introduce yourself to any Wikipedians helping your class (such as a Wikipedia Ambassador), and leave a message for a classmate on their user talk page.
Week 2: Editing basics

Week 3: How to ask for assistance

Week 4: Tour of Wikipedia

- Tour Wikipedia more broadly to understand how it works and how your contribution will be evaluated.
- Assignment (due on your own time! Your instructor will watch and follow up!)
- Add 1–2 sentences of new information, backed up with a citation to an appropriate source, to a Wikipedia article related to the class.
