Grading

[edit]

Wikipedia contributions account for 60% of the student's grade. The remainder: 20% participation in class, and 20% presentation given.
The Wikipedia contributions will be graded as follows:

  • 67%: Intrinsic quality of the Wikipedia contribution
- Encyclopedic (vs essayistic) nature. It is better to make a well-written stub, that can be used as a solid base by other WP users, than a long and interesting but non-encyclopedic article. Don't forget that Wikipedia is not the place for publishing original research but a place where you compile information contained in trustworthy sources into a coherent, analytical whole!
- Neat presentation in paragraphs, subparagraphs etc, reference list, further reading etc.
- Good use of sources: quality and variety of sources, placement of references and cites
  • 33%: How well it fits within Wikipedia
- Placing links to other WP articles
- Placing links in other WP articles to your page
- Using talk page of your article and of other articles to alert other WP contributors to your new article and invite comments
- (if already placed online): feedback given to other users on your talk page.
