This workshop in Creative Nonfiction also involves a substantial Literary Citizenship unit which emphasizes the importance of giving back to a community of writers by recognizing and helping to tell others about their literary work. For this project, we're going to engage in the information politics of Wikipedia by thinking about what subjects are well-represented in the encyclopedia and what subjects are often left out. The culminating product will be a well-researched Creative Nonfiction author article added to or developed on Wikipedia that serves as a current reference resource for Wikipedia readers and is complete with recent publications, awards, and other key facts. Overall goals of this project include:

  • understand and practice Literary Citizenship
  • research an author and their work
  • improve Wikipedia's coverage of literary subjects, and
  • come to an understanding of Wikipedia's information politics, and the causes of those politics
