GTs → FTs?

Hi F&GT coordinators. I note that there are several topics in Good Topics, which are now featured topics. Should I simply move them, or is that something best left for a coordinator? Thanks. Gog the Mild (talk) 11:07, 31 December 2021 (UTC)

Can we get the names of the topics? Because I want to make sure WP:Goings-on is up to date. GamerPro64 16:07, 31 December 2021 (UTC)
Just in Warfare I see:
Should I go through the rest? Gog the Mild (talk) 17:05, 31 December 2021 (UTC)
You might as well. I haven't been too close to the topics this year so things might have slipped by. GamerPro64 17:57, 31 December 2021 (UTC)
No problem. I assume that I should appropriately move any such articles? Do I notify their authors/nominators? Gog the Mild (talk) 18:11, 31 December 2021 (UTC)
I don't think notification is necessary, we just have to update the topic count and move them. Do you know if there are others? Aza24 (talk) 23:17, 31 December 2021 (UTC)
No. Surprisingly. Gog the Mild (talk) 23:38, 31 December 2021 (UTC)
  • Moved. Note that Nuclear weapons and the United Kingdom was in both lists, now removed from GTs. Do the two "There are currently 417 good topics that encompass 4,086 unique articles. There are 149 ..." counts need updating by hand? Gog the Mild (talk) 10:27, 1 January 2022 (UTC)
    • Since the bot is based around promotions, it does need to be manually updated, yes. I've just done so now! Aza24 (talk) 08:26, 2 January 2022 (UTC)
I think the FACBot should handle this. Will investigate. Hawkeye7 (discuss) 11:24, 2 January 2022 (UTC)
      • Well, the new FTC bot (User:NovemBot) handles updating the numbers when new topics are promoted. Upping GTs to FTs isn't super common and the minor updating of numbers isn't a big deal. Aza24 (talk) 07:50, 4 January 2022 (UTC)

Query

Aside from her discography articles, videography, performances and accolades, would Taylor Swift masters controversy need to be included in a topic for "Overview of Taylor Swift"? FrB.TG (talk) 18:44, 7 February 2022 (UTC)

Maybe. It would most likely be brought up during discussion at least. GamerPro64 20:13, 7 February 2022 (UTC)
I don't feel familiar enough with Swift or her work to say whether it's notable enough to need to be included in such an overview. Its cursory treatment in her main biography article suggests to me that the editors there judged that it was not a major aspect of her overall career. -Bryan Rutherford (talk) 21:21, 7 February 2022 (UTC)

Seems I got something wrong

I followed the regular link to create a nomination, but then when I followed the instructions to add a tag at the top of the pages, it gives me a red link becase the template {{FTCmain|ExampleTopicName|X}} produces a different link. How to fix this? ShahidTalk2me 19:31, 9 March 2022 (UTC)

Fixed. Gog the Mild (talk) 19:46, 9 March 2022 (UTC)
Or perhaps not? Is the system being thrown because the topic is coming straight in at FTC? Should the nom be "Wikipedia:Featured topic candidates/Preity Zinta/archive1"? (And not "Featured and good topic candidates".) Coordinators? Gog the Mild (talk) 20:31, 9 March 2022 (UTC)
Should be fixed now, the template was never updated when the page moves to "Featured and good topic" etc. happened. Aza24 (talk) 20:53, 9 March 2022 (UTC)
Yep. All good. Thanks. Gog the Mild (talk) 20:56, 9 March 2022 (UTC)

How long does promotion take?

The procedure section at the top of the page says that nominations with unanimous support will be passed within 10 days, but nearly all the topics currently nominated have upwards of five supports, unanimous approval, and have been waiting around for a couple weeks. @WP:FTC coordinators: AryKun (talk) 10:59, 10 April 2022 (UTC)

Sorry for the long wait! I'm processing some nominations today, and I'll try to shorten the backlog a bit. -Bryan Rutherford (talk) 12:40, 11 April 2022 (UTC)

Final Fantasy VIII

See Wikipedia_talk:Featured_topics#Final_Fantasy_VIII. Why is Final Fantasy VIII a featured topic if less than half of its articles are FA? Am confused. Is it that the different character articles are disregarded, and so the main article and the character article are the only FAs needed in a three-article topic? ~~ AirshipJungleman29 (talk) 04:14, 9 May 2022 (UTC)

It shouldn't be; it was promoted fifteen years ago, and possibly the system/rules were different then. It should probably be reclassed and moved. I'm not absolutely sure I know everything that should be changed to accompany that action, but I'll attempt it, if no one more knowledgeable is available. -Bryan Rutherford (talk) 13:26, 9 May 2022 (UTC)
I've attempted to relist it as a GT. Also, it appears that two of the articles that were in the FT box were never actually added to the topic by a promotion nomination, so I've removed them, and I'll now make the supplementary nomination. -Bryan Rutherford (talk) 14:33, 9 May 2022 (UTC)

Featured logs and good logs could use an audit

So starting May 2021, NovemBot was skipping updating the FT/GT counts at Template:Featured topic log, so I started an audit of the counts today to try to fix it. The logs are a mess, for various reasons. Here are some issues.

  • Might want to check the page history of WP:FGTC for edit summaries mentioning promote, and compare that with Template:Featured topic log, to make sure the counts are correct
  • Might want to check that the Template:Featured topic log counts and the # of archive pages transcluded in each log (good log, featured log) match. I found several missing transclusions.
  • Between 2021 and 2022, the log name switches from Wikipedia:Featured topic candidates/Featured log/October 2021 to Wikipedia:Featured and good topic candidates/Featured log/January 2022. Note the "and good". However NovemBot was using "and good" before then, resulting in two log pages being created, which may need merging.
  • Counter-intuitively, the featured log includes the good log entries too, via a transclusion of the good log page. Might not need "fixing" unless we decide to stop doing that, but figured I'd mention it since it's counter-intuitive.
  • The good log links (different than the transclusions) at the top of the featured log pages sometimes point to the wrong place, e.g. copy pasted without being updated. May be worth replacing all of these with a template, which should prevent copy paste errors in the future.
  • Some featured logs are missing Template:Featured topic log.
  • Some transclusions are missing /archive1 at the end of them.

Here's some things I started fixing. To give you an idea of what I'm talking about and to make this post less abstract.

If we want these logs properly and thoroughly fixed, it will take some effort. Figured I'd mention it here. Maybe I can get another set of eyes. –Novem Linguae (talk) 13:43, 9 August 2022 (UTC)
