TFA blurb review[edit]

Artist's impression

The Normandie class (artist's impression shown) consisted of five dreadnought battleships ordered, but never completed, for the French Navy in 1912 and 1913. Normandie (the lead ship), Flandre, Gascogne, Languedoc, and Béarn had been designed to mount twelve 340 mm (13.4 in) guns in three quadruple-gun turrets, the first of their kind. The first four ships were equipped with both steam turbines and triple-expansion steam engines to increase fuel efficiency. They were never finished due to shifting production requirements and labor shortages in 1914, the first year of World War I. Four ships were sufficiently advanced in construction to permit their launching to clear the slipways for other, more important work, and were broken up after the war. Béarn was not significantly advanced at the time work halted, and was converted into an aircraft carrier in the 1920s. She remained in service in various capacities until the 1960s and was ultimately scrapped in 1967. (Full article...)

I like these 'cause they force me to go back and reevaluate the lede of the article. And that one needed to be tweaked a bit as it failed to properly emphasize the importance of the quadruple turrets. So I've reworked this one accordingly. See how it reads now.--Sturmvogel 66 (talk) 14:46, 30 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
That looks good to me. Parsecboy (talk) 15:17, 30 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
In general, we don't want to say that something existed if it didn't, but this isn't a clear-cut case ... "artist", "impression", "ordered" and "designed" all convey, to some extent, that these ships never existed as battleships. And of course, the issue is cleared up in a few sentences, so readers who keep reading shouldn't stay confused. I liked my solution of "hulks", but clearly, you guys didn't :) No objections. - Dank (push to talk) 15:37, 30 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
How about adding something along the lines of "but were never completed" to the first line? Parsecboy (talk) 15:40, 30 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Sure, or "ordered but never completed", or "planned" after "five", or if you guys want to leave it as is, that's fine. - Dank (push to talk) 15:56, 30 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Tweaked.--Sturmvogel 66 (talk) 16:21, 30 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Looks good, and the other tweaks were nice touches. - Dank (push to talk) 17:12, 30 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
