Truth in Historical Terms

I really have a problem here. I hear what everyone is saying about the picture being offensive due to it's graphical nature, but I think that keeping images that are offensive away from the public at large is not desireable. Please clarify if that's not what you mean. I have an issue with editing the truth, however subtle. Should we remove the gas chambers from the WWII images? Or the attrocities of the Khymer Rouge from Vietnam? What you see are stark images that remind us of a time of turmoil but it's what happened and when some revisionists come back and try to deny the truth, these pictures can speak very clearly about what happened. If this soldier was my great great grandfather and he fought at this battle, I would feel dishonored to discover that some committee decided that the image of his efforts, the ultimate sacrifice, were to be swept under the rug for the sake of one persons ideal of comfort. Keep the picture and get over it. There are a thousand stories in this one picture that you can't even imaging.
