Interested in helping to plan or run the event?[edit]
"Edit" the WikiSalon event series!
We'd be delighted to have involvement from more wiki people – planning out individual events, cooking food to share, bringing a 6-pack of beer or a bottle of wine, running things like a WikiDojo or an Edit-a-thon, seeking out guest speakers, moderating a panel, etc.

- Ellin Beltz, being transgender is about gender identity. This isn't a "sexual topic," it's about the oppression and violence faced by trans people. And gender identity is absolutely an appropriate topic for school-age children, as many trans people discover their authentic identities in childhood (though I didn't find mine until middle age). - Agreed, I don't see anything inappropriate about gender issues and high school...and plenty of institutions from the California legislature to CNN have had no problem discussing the two in relation to each other (though this event presents them as two distinct topics). We will have many WikiSalons, and can choose any number of topics for them. Not all topics will speak to all audiences. - Funcrunch, The video is online, but I'm hesitant to publish it yet, because I believe Brendan is going to split it up into three pieces (intro, trans issues, high school edit-a-thon). - That would be fabulous! I don't know anything about captioning on YouTube, but once the video(s) are uploaded to Commons, there is actually nothing fancy that needs to be done to enable it there. However, I'll ask Brendan about enabling it on YouTube as well. -Pete (talk) 01:41, 2 May 2016 (UTC)

- The captioned video segment is now live. I plan to write another blog entry including links to this and the other videos, and a transcript generated from the captions. To follow-up on a question asked at the salon, as to why the Cisgender page has been vandalized/subject to disruptive editing more than the Transgender page recently: The latter is under semi-protection, and has been for awhile. I didn't realize this at the time I answered the question, but now it makes a lot more sense. The Cisgender page is currently under temporary pending changes protection.
