This is 9 days before wikimedia-uk would have to hold an AGM.Geni 03:18, 16 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Which would suggest that we have at least one agenda item? Gordo (talk) 11:29, 16 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Maybe depends if wikimedia-uk announce anything beforehand.Geni 16:05, 21 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
now saying early september.Geni 00:33, 27 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It appears that the current chapter organisation will likely have been de facto wound up (if not de jure). This means it would probably be usesful to start the groundwork on a new one at the meetup.Geni 12:29, 28 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Indeed. I've put it on the agenda (it's inevitable it will be discussed). I'm also going to start discussions on the mailing list in a minute. --Tango (talk) 15:40, 28 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Apologies[edit]

Under 18s are allowed in.Geni 09:39, 31 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Hmm. I'll see if I can come, but, with college as it is, I'm not making any promises.--Vox Humana 8' 16:49, 31 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • Clashes with a local cycling event which seems more in need of support. - Fayenatic (talk) 12:14, 6 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Wow[edit]

Big group! Hopefully you'll all stay around until the late occasion that I get there :p. Ironholds 21:33, 30 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Is the venue suitable for such a large group?[edit]

It looks like this gathering will be much larger than previous ones. I'm not familiar with the venue, will it be able to handle us all? We may need to consider an alternative. --Tango (talk) 00:21, 6 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

should be able to get by.Geni 01:48, 6 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
From memories of last months meeting the size of the venue isn't an issue, but I am worried table sizes could be. Ironholds 09:35, 6 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
You can't have 30 people chatting at once anyway, so we'll naturally separate into smaller groups. It doesn't matter if those groups are split between different tables (we need to remember to play musical tables once in a while, of course!). --Tango (talk) 21:00, 6 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
A lot of the people on the list are maybes, and I imagine that out of those who do intend to come, not everyone will make it anyway – real life has a tendency of wrecking hell with people's weekend plans. Anyway, musical chairs sounds great... I need to get back in touch with my inner child. (Having said that, I'm not sure I know his new address.) haz (talk) 12:38, 7 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Good point, there's also a lot of timetable differences; some people may leave at 1:30 while others will only turn up at 2. Ironholds 12:57, 7 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
That's a good point, I've heard plenty of people say they may be late. --Tango (talk) 20:26, 7 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I've made a little table (I like tables, very appropriate in this situation). We have 8 "will come", 2 of which expect to be late. That's about the numbers we had last time give-or-take, and the table was just about full; even assuming half of the possibly/probably people don't turn up we're screwed. I'm not sure if it's a stick-two-tables-together situation, the way the pub is set out makes it look like a very difficult thing to do. That being said I've got no sodding idea about an easier location, so this'll probably have to do. Can I request that the people who get there first set up where we had meetup 11 (if said people were there) at the back? The last meet was on one of the raised areas, which would make any table moving veeery difficult. Ironholds 22:04, 7 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Sticking tables together is probably a bad plan, even if it is possible. It's impossible to have a meaningful conversation in a large group, so it's easier to split into 2 or 3 tables and have 2 or 3 conversations going on at once (this happened naturally at the B'ham meetup I went to, even when we were all around one table). Hopefully people will move around so people aren't chatting to the same group all afternoon. --Tango (talk) 22:09, 7 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Works for me, then. I've never been in a situation like that, so I wasn't sure if it'd be a good recommendation or not. Looking forward to seeing you new'uns and old'uns again; i'll probably sit with whichever table has the most people I don't know just to see new faces, although I do have some bragging to do vis-à-vis a conversation at the last meet.
