So many O_O
[edit]Why are there so many wik-nics? Also, you guys are getting closer and closer to where I live, this one is only a short walk away. xD Sir William Matthew Flinders Petrie | Say Shalom! 22:07, 26 May 2011 (UTC)
- The Great American Wiknic is an evil plan to raise the community mojo of local wiki folks in as many parts of the US as possible, and it's kind of working :)--Pharos (talk) 17:33, 4 June 2011 (UTC)
Neighborhood
[edit]For those of us too lazy and unimaginative to bring home-cooked items, I remember supermarkets on Columbus Avenue (Manhattan) at 91st (D'Agostino) and 84th (Gristedes) Streets and several pizzerias and other restaurants at or near 86th. Opportunites abound to fetch food, drink, ice and other supplies a couple blocks without carrying anything up subway stairs or figuring where to park a car. I'll take a quick look later this morning on my way to Bronx Botanical Garden. Jim.henderson (talk) 09:51, 9 June 2011 (UTC)
- As a local of the UES, I can be of some wee bit of help I think. =p If you're coming over from the East Side, there is a Fairway opening on 86th between 2nd and 4rd, and if you are willing to head to the 70's on the UWS, you can find the original store on 74th and Broadway. There's also a Food Emporium on 68th if you're feeling up to the trek. =p UWS is a strange land to me though. Sir William Matthew Flinders Petrie | Say Shalom! 05:00, 10 June 2011 (UTC)
I intend to bring fresh fruit, carefully washed in advance of course, and some wholewheat pita bread, probably also some hummus. By the way, do we have a back-up plan in case of pouring rain or thunderstorms? Invertzoo (talk) 12:54, 18 June 2011 (UTC)
- Sounds tasty, Invertzoo. :) If the worst happens, we'll probably try to postpone. The Natural History Museum is always nearby though; may opt to stop there for the day. A walk through the museum is always more cozy when it's rainy outside anyway. Blurpeace 08:26, 19 June 2011 (UTC)
- I can get 5 people into that museum for free because I am a volunteer there. I'll bring my security pass just in case. Invertzoo (talk) 21:02, 19 June 2011 (UTC)
- If I make it to the picnic and remember to bring my work badge, I should similarly be able to get in either three or five (I forget which) people. A fluffernutter is a sandwich! (talk) 00:49, 20 June 2011 (UTC)

The Official "If Rain Happens" thread
[edit]Right now (as of right now), Saturday is supposed to be rainy as hell. My first question is A) Is there a gazebo or something nearby and B) Let's make some plans if we need to move. The Museum of Natural History is near 81st Street and nearby, but let's use this thread for official suggestions. Mitch32(Can someone turn on the damn air conditioning?) 03:14, 22 June 2011 (UTC)
- I biked by, late this morning on my way from Harlem to the East 34th St ferry dock. There is no gazebo or other proper rain shelter. The lowest place, the north end of the kiddie soccer field, was muddy but the slopes were dry enough to satisfy people who were sitting and chatting. As long as it's not actually raining and hasn't in the past hour, we ought to be all right. Jim.henderson (talk) 18:28, 23 June 2011 (UTC)
- The Weather Channal's forecast [1] is for rain Saturday morning. What about the afternoon? --Uncle Ed (talk) 19:35, 23 June 2011 (UTC)
- If that remains the case, we're guessingly good to go. We should bring extra towels to sit on and chairs so we don't get sopping wet.Mitch32(Can someone turn on the damn air conditioning?) 23:39, 23 June 2011 (UTC)
- Currently, for tomorrow Saturday, the National Weather Service [2] is saying patchy fog before 10 am, then from 12 noon onward a 30% chance of showers and thunderstorms (with heavy rain). A 30% chance is reasonably low, and they are saying otherwise partly sunny. Invertzoo (talk) 12:42, 24 June 2011 (UTC)

The official (late) who's-bringing-what thread
[edit]Bit late for this now, I know, but perhaps we can try to get an idea of what we will and won't have on hand tomorrow. I am bringing some cookies and a large quantity of potato chips of various flavors. I see that Invertzoo said above that she's bringing fruit, bread, and dip. What are other people bringing? A fluffernutter is a sandwich! (talk) 19:35, 24 June 2011 (UTC)
- I'm bringing rye bread, hummus, chips of various kinds, assorted cold cuts, plates/cups/forks/napkins and also a few garbage bags. Also, maybe Scrabble and frisbee.--Pharos (talk) 20:11, 24 June 2011 (UTC)
- Nearby and with wheels, heavy stuff. Chilled cola and orange juce. For the probable damp and possible downpour, a blanket and some plastic sheeting. Jim.henderson (talk) 21:24, 24 June 2011 (UTC)
- In the past we had a group outing to a supermarket... I'd like to do that again this time but I probably won't be there until after 2pm so may pick something up on the way instead. I also have to deal with the 2 train rides issue. (What to bring, I have no idea. I'm currently accepting wishlists :) ) --Jeremyb (talk) 04:47, 25 June 2011 (UTC)
- One of you should really bring either Nutella or that Israeli chocolate spread if they are near a Fairway. It is criminal to do otherwise. Don't forget yogurt and mayo for sammichs either. Also, some Red Jacket Orchards cider goes well with everything. Sir William Matthew Flinders Petrie | Say Shalom! 09:07, 25 June 2011 (UTC)
- Jim and I can easily do an outing to a supermarket if needed. If Pharos has the card, it's even easier.Mitch32(Can someone turn on the damn air conditioning?) 12:45, 25 June 2011 (UTC)

- How about I bring a roll of paper towels? In case someone gets their hands dirty. --Uncle Ed (talk) 16:33, 25 June 2011 (UTC)
when
[edit]When is this? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.108.76.50 (talk) 16:30, 25 June 2011 (UTC)
- Today, from 1 pm to 8 pm. Invertzoo (talk) 17:12, 25 June 2011 (UTC)
Pictures
[edit]I took 6 pictures with my cell phone, anybody mind if I upload them? --Uncle Ed (talk) 01:49, 26 June 2011 (UTC)
- We definitely encourage you to upload all you got! We already have a category on Commons, if you want to send them there. Thanks, Blurpeace 17:26, 27 June 2011 (UTC)
- No portraits, but a half dozen shots of people standing around or sitting in groups. But first I have to figure out how to connect my cell phone to my computer to copy the pix. --Uncle Ed (talk) 21:29, 27 June 2011 (UTC)
- Sure, there's definitely no rush. Get them up whenever you can. Thanks Ed. Blurpeace 00:25, 28 June 2011 (UTC)
