Catalina[edit]

The Powerhouse web site has quite a lot of information on "Frigate Bird II", and there is the potential for an article. However, I think we would need to find a little more of interest to justify a complete article (perhaps there is a biography of the pilot that includes more?). I have prepared these notes to help if we want to consider an article. Johnuniq (talk) 10:08, 13 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The PBY Catalina article looks pretty complete; I'm not sure its editors would want a picture of "Frigate Bird II".

The Powerhouse catalina is listed on PBY Catalina survivors (the codes shown in that article agree with the Powerhouse web site).

Ask Powerhouse[edit]

Why are there two Powerhouse pages with slightly different information?

  • Object B1495 Height 5500 mm. Second paragraph of "Description" says the wing is "almost cantilevered". Description has more information.
  • Object B1495-1 Height 6400 mm. Second paragraph of "Description" says the wing is "strut supported".

Each web page has four images. Can we use them (and their captions)? Probably images 02 and 04 would be good for use somewhere here (image 02 could be on pilot's page).

  • Image 01: Catalina 'Frigate Bird II' being cleaned at Rose Bay in Sydney before its flight to South America in 1951.
  • Image 02: Pilot PG Taylor and co-pilot Harry Purvis prepare Catalina 'Frigate Bird II' for the flight to Chile in 1951 - the bottles for the Jet Assisted Take Off (JATO) system can be seen attached to the hull at the base of the aft strut.
  • Image 03 is view from below in Powerhouse exhibit; 04 is view from above.
