Should we respect official spelling?
I was confused, their attempt to move Halh River → Khalkhyn Gol per MNS 5217:2003 received no objection, while my attempt to move Shishapangma → Xixabangma per SASM/GNC romanization received lots of objections. Why are these result that different? ––虞海 (Yú Hǎi) ✍ 19:35, 7 December 2011 (UTC)
Halh/Khalkha is clearly far more common than "Khalkhyn", while Shishapangma and Xixabangma are both common in different fields. ––虞海 (Yú Hǎi) ✍ 19:41, 7 December 2011 (UTC)

- Jayron is right, of course, but I think you misunderstood the facts of the Kalkhyn Gol move. According to Talk:Khalkhyn Gol#Requested move (again), it had previously been moved to Halh River because that is the ISO standard. The two editors involved in moving it back to Khalkhyn Gol did so on the basis of common English spelling and Wikipedia:Naming conventions (Mongolian).—Greg Pandatshang (talk) 04:08, 10 December 2011 (UTC)
