Reason

It never ceases to amaze me that clueless newbies can put up pages here with gross <pre> sections. Since they seem to be unaware of it, I need a page which explains it too them slowly and clearly. I tried to put this simple advice into page widening in the (article) namespace but it got converted into a redirect to a more general discussion. — RHaworth (talk · contribs) 14:32, 27 January 2011 (UTC)

Sorry to hear that, RH. I came across what appears to be a slightly different kind of page widening. I was reading the Orbit of the Moon article, and at the bottom was a Navbox that had a problem "child" navbox inside it, the one titled "Parameters". When that child navbox was opened, the whole navbox widenened so that the info at the very end could not be seen. And here's the kicker: There was no scroller at the bottom to use to scroll the page over and see the info! I hadn't come across that before, even though I use IE9 with the text size set to "Largest". I used the BR tags to fix it, and another editor changed it to use the {{Allow wrap}} template. So, just to let you know, the horizontal scroll bar isn't always available to help with the widened pages. – PIE ( CLIMAX )  10:51, 5 February 2012 (UTC)
