"I have bitten someone—what do I do?" section

[edit]

@Aaron Liu: I think in an effort to make the section less combative, it inadvertently became too placating to the point that it reads kind of belittling. I think something shorter and punchier would give better guidance. Ca talk to me! 07:32, 30 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I've combined two of the points. How about now? Aaron Liu (talk) 13:49, 30 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
It is much better, thanks. This bullet point still reads kinda clunky though: "Research better alternatives to biting, ensuring that history does not repeat itself in future situations that are similar."
Perhaps "Guide the newcomer through Wikipedia processes, and reflect on what you could have done differently." would be better and at the same time more informative. Ca talk to me! 15:24, 30 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
That's wonderful! (well, if you remove the comma.) You should edit that in so it counts towards your contributions. Aaron Liu (talk) 15:33, 30 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hanlon's razor

[edit]

Rewrite looks good - one thing I would say could be improved is the usage of Hanlon's razor in this section:

2. As always, assume good faith. Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity. We were all newcomers once.
3. Avoid intensifiers such as exclamation points(!!!!) and words such as terrible, dumb, stupid, bad, poor, etc.

Telling people not to use the word "stupid" while saying in the previous point "you should assume people are stupid" isn't the best combo! I would replace it with something like the following:

2. As always, assume good faith - you can't blame someone for breaking a rule they weren't aware of. We were all newcomers once.
3. Avoid intensifiers such as exclamation points(!!!!) and words such as terrible, dumb, stupid, bad, poor, etc.

I would edit this in myself but didn't want to interfere with the ongoing RFC. Rest of rewrite looks good to me. BugGhost🦗👻 15:47, 12 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

My feeling is that should assume that people are stupid but not call them stupid, kinda like the last point which should probably become a subpoint of #3. Aaron Liu (talk) 18:25, 16 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
