Thanks for kicking this off[edit]

Thanks to @ThePlatypusofDoom:, @Anarchyte:, @Andy M. Wang: for kicking this off. Well I think this could be an important essay, but it is early days to at the moment. I think that RfA inflation is a big problem, and is only going to get bigger as time goes on. Editors who actually want to be admins wont be able to as the bar gets set higher and higher.

Andy has suggested it may be userfied initially, and this might make writing it easier. I don't personally think its redundant, but there are of course other problems associated with RfA. One thing that also annoys me is editors who are prejudiced against editing in certain namespaces, and will discount mainspace edits because of "poor" ratios to other namespaces, e.g. see [1] and [2]. Perhaps it could also be addressed here with "related problems". --Jules (Mrjulesd) 11:28, 13 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Mrjulesd: I have a user essay that might help, see User:ThePlatypusofDoom/Why I hate RfA. ThePlatypusofDoom (Talk) 11:30, 13 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I think that could also be linked. But the overriding problem is basically inflation: not just in edit count but in other achievements. I doubt all this "you must have x FAs and y GAs, and so many articles etc." was the case in the early days. In the early days requirements were a lot lower, but I am not aware of Wikipedia grinding to a halt because of this. --Jules (Mrjulesd) 11:38, 13 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I added a section from my article to the page, to serve as the conclusion to the essay. ThePlatypusofDoom (Talk) 11:40, 13 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Seems good. These are some of my points on the problems on RfA [3] --Jules (Mrjulesd) 11:44, 13 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]
