The Birds is the fifth collection by Alexander McQueen for his fashion house. It was inspired by ornithology and the Alfred Hitchcock film The Birds, for which it was named. The collection centred around sharply tailored garments and emphasised female sexuality. The runway show was staged on 9 October 1994 and the venue was a warehouse in the London district of King's Cross. The Birds was styled with imagery of violence and death; some models were covered in tyre tracks and others wore white contact lenses. Reception was generally positive, although the styling drew accusations of misogyny. The show's success allowed McQueen to secure the financial backing to stage his next show, Highland Rape. Garments from The Birds appeared in both stagings of the retrospective exhibition Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty. Seán McGirr heavily referenced The Birds for Autumn/Winter 2024, his debut collection as creative director for the Alexander McQueen brand. (Full article...)

Overthrow of Slobodan Milošević

[edit]

I think that the Overthrow of Slobodan Milošević deserves to be added to the October 5 anniversaries.--Avala (talk) 10:04, 5 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Any chance of mentioning that 5 October 2012 is the fiftieth anniversary of the release of 'Dr. No, the first Bond film? It's a notable film series in its own right and a notable anniversary for the film too. - SchroCat (^@) 11:52, 4 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Dr. No was on last year, and I normally like to have a new set on each year for variety's sake, but looking at tomorrow's Main Page, it seems like we may need an extra entry to fill in space, so that will be a good candidate. howcheng {chat} 16:32, 4 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
That's great: I look forward to hopefully seeing it up there. Cheers - SchroCat (^@) 21:40, 4 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
ITN had 7 items, so I dropped one from there and put Dr. No in. howcheng {chat} 02:26, 5 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Shouldn't Yom Kippur be added in addition to Vijayadashami for this year? ReefstoneMIDI (talk) 02:30, 5 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

It has been commented out because there are large chunks of text that are not sourced. If someone can fix this, then it can be re-added Bumbubookworm (talk) 02:38, 5 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
