redirects[edit]

This Special page would be more useful if it excluded category redirects. Stepheng3 (talk) 00:14, 18 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Suggest removing redirects from this list[edit]

There are currently a lot of redirects on this list such as Category:1774 in the United States. I suggest removing these from the list. Kumioko (talk) 23:34, 23 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Also skip categories that contain Template:Empty category. Kumioko (talk) 01:14, 25 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
This. It makes actually empty categories stand out. Jjjjjjdddddd (talk) 06:08, 20 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

RfC on redirect categories[edit]

The consensus is that the special page should exclude categories that are solely redirects. Cunard (talk) 02:03, 21 November 2016 (UTC)

Relisted RfC that asked "Should the special page exclude categories that are solely redirects?" Cunard (talk) 23:13, 9 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Should the special page exclude categories that are solely redirects? Jjjjjjdddddd (talk) 22:26, 30 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

  • Support I agree that category redirects should be excluded from Special:UnusedCategories. We should create a new page property called "categoryredirect", have Template:Category redirect put __CATEGORYREDIRECT__ on category redirects, and finally update the MediaWiki software to exclude category redirects with that page property. The first and last require Phabricator tasks. GeoffreyT2000 (talk) 02:25, 10 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

  • RFCbot invite - Support. Redirect categories that need to be deleted along with the category it redirects to can be speedy deleted under the G8 criterion - and should show up in reports and tools as being eligible - and those that don't meet G8 need to be investigated under a different process. There very well could be a justification for a separate Special:UnusedRedirectCategories if someone decides that's a maintenance task worthy of pursuing, but those redirect categories definitely don't belong here. Frequency of updates to list[edit]

Any chance this list could be updated daily? It includes a lot of categories that are, unfortunately, excluded from the database empty categories list. It would be very helpful to see it daily rather than every 3 days. Thanks. Liz Read! Talk! 17:29, 20 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

  • Liz, Alternatively, there could be a second database report that doesn't exclude so many categories. Qwerfjkltalk 17:30, 20 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
This list is usually updated by now but so far, no new list. I'm not even sure where to inquire as I doubt many people that could help watch this talk page. Liz Read! Talk! 15:54, 1 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
