Heh, Really?[edit]

Well it's to be expected that imitators will pop up. I guess it's doing something useful. Though the "Shh banner" doesn't quite fit for this project as editors are encouraged to pipe up. -- œ 02:27, 6 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

You're right. I'll think of something... Kayau Wuthering Heights VANITY FAIR paradise lost 05:53, 6 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I've done a new version. Please see if it's more appropiate. Thanks. Kayau Wuthering Heights VANITY FAIR paradise lost 06:02, 6 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Stop.
This user is observing The Great Wikipedia Dramaonly from August 19-21 and is probably busy resolving unsettled arguments or discussions, or patrolling pages and recent changes. If you have a question, please consider leaving a message when the Dramaonly is over. You can join us! Signup is here.

I think telling users not to leave messages is a bit inappropriate. After all, the Dramaonly doesn't say not to reply to talk page messages (in fact, it seems to encourage it), and users who are patrolling should be open to comments (e.g. This isn't very welcoming to newbs who have had a page they created tagged) - Kingpin13 (talk) 10:54, 6 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Um, no. I don't encourage anyone to start new discussions, but clear out old ones, like the linguistic barnstar or sock puppetry barnstar, which we've never touched for quite a long time. Kayau Wuthering Heights VANITY FAIR paradise lost 00:42, 7 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
But if a new user starts a conversation on your own talk page, surely you should respond? - Kingpin13 (talk) 00:44, 7 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, and not only that. During the yesdrama period, it has to be finished before the yesdrama ends. Kayau Wuthering Heights VANITY FAIR paradise lost 01:30, 8 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Bad idea[edit]

This is a horrible horrible idea. What you're essentially asking is for people doing useful stuff to drop things, go over to a dispute they are not necessarily familiar with and get stuck in. Heard of the phrase "too many cooks spoil the broth?" In some cases more eyes may be what something needs. In many a load of people unfamiliar with the situation rushing in and quoting TLAs at people is just likely to make things worse, while simultaneously failing to do the useful stuff they were doing before they stuck on their little busybody hat. Ironholds (talk) 01:24, 16 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I've never heard that phrase, but I agree with it. –Juliancolton | Talk 02:19, 16 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
What a great shame that you never got round to reading the sentence 'Pure wikignomes are not encouraged to participate. Kayau Wuthering Heights VANITY FAIR paradise lost 00:47, 17 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Righto, so you're not cutting away the really dedicated gnomes... just everyone else. Explain to me how that sentence changes the validity of my point.
OK, so what sort change do you want? (Notice, by the way, that you forgot to sign. :-P) Kayau Wuthering Heights VANITY FAIR paradise lost 08:49, 17 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
What sort of changes? Cancel this whole stupid thing. We're here to build an encyclopedia, not dedicate encyclopedia-building time to settling hissyfits. Ironholds (talk) 09:00, 17 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
OK, I've added on the project page that anyone can drop out and start wikignoming again once they've cleared out all the discussions. (I did that last night.) I hope that works for you. Kayau Wuthering Heights VANITY FAIR paradise lost 01:06, 18 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
You've completely missed the point, so I'll make it clearer. Burn it, burn it all - let this silly idea die a horrible and lonely death. Let people take one look at this page and go right back to doing what we're actually here to do - build an encyclopedia. Is that clear enough now? Ironholds (talk) 01:12, 18 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
If you don't like it, then don't join or don't look at it. For someone who is against the idea of a "pay attention to drama day", you're surely generating a metric fuckton (pardon my french) of drama at the moment contesting it. Tarc (talk) 01:43, 18 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Gotta agree with Tarc here. If some users get together and want to spend a short time helping with discussions on Wikipedia (some of which will inevitably be related to content), then I can't see the problem. Nor can I understand why you are getting so worked up about it. Wikipedia is pretty much based on discussions, and closing those discussion is important (unfortunately, most discussions have a lot of input, and a great idea, but nothing is actually done with them) - Kingpin13 (talk) 01:57, 18 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Actually there's some places...CfD and WQA come to mind...where there is just a tiny handful of "old hands" that make up the majority of the discussions. Purposefully injecting some new voices into some of the stagnant pools around here would be a good idea, as familiarity is sometimes a part of the problem. Tarc (talk) 01:29, 17 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Wikipedia:Conflict of interest/Noticeboard also needs support. Not just Atama doing all the work. Perhaps this project would be more useful if editors were directed at specific noticeboards etc. that need extra help responding to users. -- œ 05:52, 18 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Erm...[edit]

I'm not much of a WikiGnome myself, but I think there should be more promotion of this. Hardly anyone's heard about it/is joining the cause, so somehow we should; get it some attention. Kausill 03:00, 16 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Oh wait, I've looked at my contribs, I am a WikiGnome... lol. I'll happily join. Kausill 03:01, 16 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
But this project is telling you stop wikignoming.. you think that's a good thing? -- œ 03:19, 16 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
As above, DO NOT JOIN IF YOU'RE A WIKIGNOME. OK? thanks, Kayau Wuthering Heights VANITY FAIR paradise lost 08:47, 17 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Ah, so whose going to stop their wikignoming work? Kausill 12:45, 20 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
