"Portraits...of the Dutch East Indies" Photographic portraits of a country seems an odd concept. the proposition "in", rather than "of" would be equally applicable to landscapes and portraits. Kevin McE (talk) 13:05, 24 November 2019 (UTC)
- I thought about it at the time and decided to keep "of". ("in" sounds too much like "portraits of people in the Dutch East Indies" to me, which isn't what's meant.) This might be something ERRORS people want to talk about, I don't know. - Dank (push to talk) 16:29, 24 November 2019 (UTC)
- That seems to be precisely what is meant: "From May to August he was in Sumatra, first in Padang and later in the Minang Highlands. There he offered various photographic services, including double and family portraits. He took over 250 photographs in 6 years. That is about one photo every 8 or 9 days. What sort of professional photographer is that? I know the equipment was less efficient than we have now, but that is really not a credible figure. Kevin McE (talk) 17:48, 24 November 2019 (UTC)
- It sounds like he only took pictures either a) in the studio, on private commission or b) of the countryside, in the expectation of selling prints. If his main business was selling prints, and not many people commissioned portraits, it doesn't sound unreasonable.--Wehwalt (talk) 18:32, 24 November 2019 (UTC)
