Ideas[edit]

Hi, Cindy. Which article are you interested in working on the most? --Jocelyn Munson (talk) 21:59, 25 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Jocelyn, I have some preliminary interest in the protein inhibitor of the JAK-STAT pathway, but am open to other suggestions. The reason for my interest in the JAK-STAT pathway is that this there have been some fairly recent (last 5 years) advancements around the role of this pathway in disease (cancer). Is there a article or topic that you are most interested in? I am open to working on another article. --Catwell99 (talk) 15:22, 1 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I'm also interested in editing that article. Since no one else seems to want to work on it, I'll go ahead and "claim it". --Jocelyn Munson (talk) 22:12, 1 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I added the "article selection rationale" section to our group page. We have to write the summary together. I probably won't contribute my piece until Tuesday. --Jocelyn Munson (talk) 22:38, 1 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for claiming the protein inhibitor of activated STAT article for us.--Catwell99 (talk) 16:24, 2 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
No problem! --Jocelyn Munson (talk) 19:35, 2 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Jocelyn, I started a summary of the rationale for selecting the PIAS article. However, I think that we will need to add some additional content to the summary as it should contain 200-300 words. --Catwell99 (talk) 02:31, 4 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for starting the summary! I'll add my contribution later today. --Jocelyn Munson (talk) 19:44, 4 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I just added my contribution to the "article selection rationale" section. Would you mind if we used my sandbox while working on this project? --Jocelyn Munson (talk) 00:30, 5 March 2014 (UTC
Sure. Going forward we can use your sandbox. --Catwell99 (talk) 04:08, 5 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Key points[edit]

Hi, Cindy. What key points should be included in the PIAS article? We should obviously include its general biological role(s), its mechanism(s), and its applications in cancer treatment. --Jocelyn Munson (talk) 00:30, 8 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Our preliminary outline is located on my sandbox page. What do you think of it so far? Also, based on the lack of available PIAS-related images, I think we should create our own. --Jocelyn Munson (talk) 23:37, 10 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Joceyln, I think that we should follow the Wikipedia Cell Signaling outline for Wikipedia articles. I think that what you have outlined pretty much follows spirit of the guidelines. We could just add in a History/ Discovery section and a Current Research section. I'll add these sections in your sandbox.
General introduction - keep it simple and clear
History/Discovery - discovery, seminal papers
Mechanism - the proteins involved and how they interact.
Role - the role of the pathway
Human disease - alternatively this can be incorporated into the previous section
Current research - recent advances, future directions
--Catwell99 (talk) 00:38, 11 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I didn't know about those guidelines. Thanks for posting that! --Jocelyn Munson (talk) 19:03, 11 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I agree. There aren't many pictures of PIAS. I did a search on the BioText Search engine, and there are diagrams of the STAT signaling pathway that we could probably use in order to illustrate PIAS's role and relevance in signaling pathways important for disease. However, I didn't find any readily available pictures regarding the structure of PIAS --Catwell99 (talk) 02:35, 11 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Can you post those diagrams to the sandbox page? --Jocelyn Munson (talk) 19:03, 11 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Sure. I can post the signal diagrams as potential pictures. --Catwell99 (talk) 23:39, 11 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I saw that you added a summary to the talk page of the PIAS stub article. Should we also include a condensed version of our preliminary outline?--Catwell99 (talk) 23:40, 11 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
That might be a good idea. Feel free to post it on the talk page --Jocelyn Munson (talk) 03:10, 12 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
After further researching the diagrams that I found, I realized that they were copyrighted. It looks like we will need to create our own pictures. I just posted a reference which should give us a good starting point in terms of thinking about the signaling pathway. --Catwell99 (talk) 01:41, 12 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
We can use Inkscape to create our own pictures.--Jocelyn Munson (talk) 02:59, 12 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
