2FA bother[edit]

Right then. I think I stuffed up going through the motions of getting AWB going again after I enabled 2FA the other day. What I have at this point is two accounts (this one that I'm signing with, plus a new one called User:Schwede66bot) and I sense that wasn't the right thing to do. My bot password for "AWB" is linked to that new account. I suppose what needs to happen is to have that new account and its associated AWB bot password nuked again. And then, I'll have to start this process again and hopefully get it right the second time round. Xaosflux, is that something that you can nuke? Schwede66 03:27, 10 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Schwede66: assuming you want to use AWB as your main account 'Schwede66' you can ignore User:Schwede66bot (keep the password you made, maybe one day you will want to run a bot). To create the "botpassword" for your primary account - while logged in to your primary account go to Special:BotPasswords. Under "Create a new bot password" you give the password a 'nickname' (for example I use something like XaosfluxForAWB). This nickname isn't a "secret" itself - but noone else will ever see it, and you will use it as part of the "account name" for API logons (such as for AWB). In this example, for AWB I would use the "username" Xaosflux@XaosfluxForAWB and the password would be the BotPasswords special password that the system makes for me in this process. Does that help? — xaosflux Talk 09:56, 10 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Roger that, Xaosflux. I guess my query was whether the new account should be removed again but what you say is to just keep it. That's fine. Thanks for your advice. I've got the latest version of AWB working on my main account and all is good. Schwede66 21:30, 10 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
