I wonder if the "new proposal" part of this should be split off. I think we could use a guideline cautioning against using Wikipedia to promote new ideas. I know this is already covered in great detail in WP:NOR, but something brief and newbie-friendly might be good. Friday (talk) 19:43, 17 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

The funny part is that there really aren't any new ideas in this world, as so many brilliant people before us have thought of pretty much everything there is to think about. There does exist ideas which are new to the general population or more commonly, which are new to the Wiki-trolls, who guard their article "bridges" very dilligently, even fanatically. Frankly, every new idea could probably be found to have dozens of citations, and really, people won't search for them unless they are interested in them in the first place. I've seen the new idea/personal essay critic be used much more in the establishment of taboo knowledge, than as a defense against persuasive essays. --Landen99 20:59, 22 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
