Discussion

For discussion of the topic drives, which season to start notability sweep at first. Cirt (talk) 17:12, 4 April 2009 (UTC)

If we're going to go season-by-season, it would make sense to start with Season 2. Originally, I pictured us going through and making every article notable first, and then focusing on GAs and FAs. But this way will work too. Incidentally, do we need this page anymore or should I trash it? — Hunter Kahn (contribs) 20:29, 4 April 2009 (UTC)
1) Sounds good. 2) The subpage you created has a lot of useful points, some of them could be a sort of advice or notes subsection at this page maybe. Cirt (talk) 20:31, 4 April 2009 (UTC)

Let's start with Season 1, and then proceed chronologically in order from there after we get it to Good Topic. Sound good? Cirt (talk) 22:18, 4 April 2009 (UTC)

Saddam Hussein

This isn't really related to the drive, but you guys need to check this out: http://www.clickliverpool.com/culture/culture/123730-saddam-hussein-forced-to-watch-south-park-movie-by-us-marines.htmlHunter Kahn (contribs) 03:03, 8 April 2009 (UTC)

Damien FAC

Damien (South Park) just passed as a GA, and now I've nominated it as a Featured Article candidate. I'll obviously be keeping an eye on the comments and working to fix them up, but if you guys would like to keep an eye on them as well and feel free to fix any problems or address any comments along with me, that'd be appreciated too. Thanks! — Hunter Kahn (contribs) 14:52, 9 April 2009 (UTC)

Seasons

Created a topic drive page for Seasons, at Wikipedia:WikiProject South Park/Featured topic Drive/seasons. Probably should be a lower priority, as each individual season page would hopefully be improved as we go through each topic drive on the way. Cirt (talk) 08:48, 11 April 2009 (UTC)

I was thinking that we can list a reward for making a south park article rise to a featured or good article status. Similar to some of the non-monentary awards already on the board. this will generate advertising and interest in our efforts. Ikip (talk) 16:12, 16 April 2009 (UTC)

Great idea, though at the moment we are progressing so well we don't really need that at the moment, but can't hurt, right? Cirt (talk) 18:15, 16 April 2009 (UTC)

Thoughts requested on character article edits

This year, I've done a lot of work on many of the character articles. Recently I've gotten the articles for Stan Marsh ([1][2]) and Kyle Broflovski ([3][4]) to where I think they can be as helpful as they can be (or at least close). If anyone wants to look at them, please do so and consider them as a prototype for how I'd like to edit all the other character articles. Suggestions for improvements would be great, as I have scoured the web and found tons of good resources, and would like to continue in editing all the character articles in order to help this drive in making them suitable for GA nomination (I've gotten the ball rolling on about half of them). Thanks. - SoSaysChappy (talk) 13:51, 2 May 2009 (UTC)

Sweet, just remember to stay away from so many wikipedia references (over half refer to episodes on wikipedia). Nergaal (talk) 17:25, 2 May 2009 (UTC)
Yes, please try to incorporate additional secondary sources. Cirt (talk) 22:35, 2 May 2009 (UTC)
Yeah, I know. Until recently I had kept the the "in-universe style" tag on there because the sources were predominantly episode cites, which makes the article lean dangerously into OR territory. I'm sure I can find secondary sources backing up statements regarding, say, more famous episodes such as the Scientology and Jesse Jackson/Kramer ones. What to do, though, in case a secondary source can't be found? For instance, there's info on Stan's article cited from the "Rainforest Schmainforest" episode, which is there to explain that he has a fear of snakes despite his love of animals. If a secondary source cannot be found for this, would it necessitate removing the statement altogether? (it is a rather mundane note in the grand scheme of the article) Or would it still be suitable to leave it in if the rest of the references were more weighted with outside sources? Is an episode citation sufficient in backing up a simple NPOV statement that describes what happened to a character in a specific episode? This is just one example; a lot of the character episodes I've edited so far are still largely affected by this type of thing. - SoSaysChappy (talk) 01:07, 3 May 2009 (UTC)
If you're going for GA, I would recommend having at least half of the refs be from secondary sources. You can achieve this by adding secondary sources, or adding secondary sources and removing primary sources. If you do the second, then just start removing the most trivial on up. Stan being afraid of snakes would probably be one of the first to go, although I don't watch SP so I don't know how often it comes up. - Peregrine Fisher (talk) (contribs) 01:22, 3 May 2009 (UTC)
I believe it is ok to say "in episode x" or "in season y it is revealed that Stan is afraid of snakes", although I am not sure how relevant this specific note might be to the entire character personality. Look at Homer Simpson whenever you are not sure what to say or where to put it. Nergaal (talk) 04:24, 3 May 2009 (UTC)

Okey-doke...before this turns into a discussion regarding the "snake" thing, I just want to clarify that I wanted to swing all of this by this discussion page to see if the recent edits were "on the right track", so to speak. I've been trying to adhere to the guidelines on WP:WAF, and I've updated the Stan Marsh article per the advice above. I would appreciate feedback, and would like to refer to Stan's page as a standard, or blueprint...if you will, in editing other character pages. Thanks again. - SoSaysChappy (talk) 09:04, 3 May 2009 (UTC)

Feedback needed on image discussion

This discussion on the project's main talk page concerns four SP article that are currently GA nominees. Some feedback there would be appreciated. Thanks. - SoSaysChappy (talk) 17:52, 11 May 2009 (UTC)

Kyle Broflovski GA review

If anyone wishes to weigh in on the review, it would be much appreciated. Helping to make edits to the article per the review would be a big help, too. I (and others) have held discussions with the reviewer about following WP:RGA more closely ...but I still feel like I'm coming away with vague descriptions of problems, and not suggestions for solutions, when reading new comments in the review. Help bail me out here ...I'll buy you a parakeet :) Happy 4th. - SoSaysChappy (talk) 09:03, 4 July 2009 (UTC)

Just so you all know, I've listed Weight Gain 4000 for an FAC nomination. Any comments, criticism or otherwise feedback is welcome! — Hunter Kahn (c) 06:24, 2 November 2009 (UTC)

Butters

I'm having a rough time trying to find good real-world info on Butters for his article. I personally feel the article is heading in the right direction, but proportionally, there is still too much in-universe perspective. I just know there has to be some decent secondary coverage on this character. I think I've gotten as much as I can find from Google web and news searches. Anyone know where to look? Thanks. - SoSaysChappy (talk) 23:29, 12 November 2009 (UTC)

Did you try a google book search? - Peregrine Fisher (talk) (contribs) 23:49, 12 November 2009 (UTC)
Google scholar has stuff as well, but you'll probably need a university library to actually read the journal articles. - Peregrine Fisher (talk) (contribs) 23:54, 12 November 2009 (UTC)
Also, LexisNexis. Cirt (talk) 00:42, 13 November 2009 (UTC)
A lot of the books (that I actually have in my possession) were written about halfway through the show's run, which was just prior to Butters's "rise", so there is not a lot about him there. I've also been hampered a lot by the fact that a lot of articles I've found with some good stuff requires registration, and references with links to the source's actual content are highly preferred. I'll definitely try to utilize the scholar search more, and see what Lexis turns up. Thanks! - SoSaysChappy (talk) 01:11, 13 November 2009 (UTC)
I think there were two or three books talking about the Simpsons already did it ep, and Butters role in it in that google book search, that weren't already used. - Peregrine Fisher (talk) (contribs) 01:14, 13 November 2009 (UTC)
