The Baseball Article Improvement Drive is a new collaboration to improve all baseball related articles. For a complete overview of the project please see the project page. Before nominating and voting, please read and understand the How To section below.

In our sundown perambulations of late, through the outer parts of Brooklyn, we have observed several parties of youngsters playing 'base', a certain game of ball.... Let us go forth awhile and get better air in our lungs. Let us leave our close rooms.... the game of ball is glorious.

Nominating

To nominate an article just put # ~~~~ beside it.

A date will be set for the closing of nominations; at that point, all the nominated articles will be put in a list. All you have to do to vote is put ## ~~~~ below it.

Baseball Cards as Pictures

I am new to WIKI too. I just wanted to show you this link. It has some great formal photographs of ball players. example: Freddie Parent 1902 Colleen Foy foysterling@comcastnet http://www.baseball-fever.com/showthread.php?102911-19th-Century-Historic-Photographic-Archive/page3

I'm new to wikipedia (longtime user) and would like to contribute to the baseball project. Specifically: adding scans of baseball cards to player biographies.

I read over the wikipedia's policy and there seems to be a noted exception for "copyright" material:

"However, for some retired or disbanded groups, or retired individuals whose notability rests in large part on their earlier visual appearance, a new picture may not serve the same purpose as an image taken during their career, in which case the use would be acceptable."

This along with what appears to be the major card producers having no concern about thousands of websites and blogs using their images. It doesn't interfere with their sales, and the images of the cards are just that and not reproducing the physical cards themselves.

Decent "free" photographs of players before the digital camera era are few and far between. A picture of a seventy-two year old Juan Marichal does not give his playing days due justice...other players have no photos at all.
